| Tawsif, think of it this way. Every day we live, we are either on the path of getting slimmer or of getting fatter. Just decide which path you want to follow TODAY. No one could motivate me before. I knew I needed to lose weight, but couldn't make the mental shift to get started. Then one day losing this weight became more important to me than anything else. It's a commitment you will have to find inside yourself. I can't imagine being really sick AND adjusting to Atkins at the same time. That had to be bad. My first three weeks on Atkins were very difficult. I was truly sick... some days nauseous and some days I had to drag myself around I was so tired. But all that is past now, and I really do feel better than I have felt in a long time. I read on another low carb board that it takes a while for your body to manufacture the enzymes needed to shift to a fat-burning metabolism. That explains a lot of it to me. I do hope that you can get back into the state of mind to commit to Atkins. It is the only diet I have ever been on that controls cravings and hunger. (((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) and the very best of luck to you! |

| Hopefully, your true illness is over and done with. Just start over the same way you did the first time. Only this time, make plans for what to do if you become ill with more than induction flu. If you are way past induction flu, where your body is in ketosis due to your body making the proper enzymes for digesting fat and protein, and then you go off because you are sick, the reverse will happen when you eat carbs. You no longer have enzymes available to digest the carbs, so you feel worse for a few days until you make the proper enzymes to digest the carbs. When you are truly sick, you don't need to eat at all. Your body is busy fighting the sickness and doesn't have the wherewithal to try to digest food. That's why we throw up much of what we eat when sick. Then dehydration becomes a threat. You do need to stay hydrated, so drink lots of water, warm tea, meat broths and the like if your tummy is upset. When you feel a little more like eating, some gently simmered chicken on the bone, eaten with the broth, is easy on the digestive system. You will get electrolytes from the boiled bones. I always found cooked summer squash and green beans the easiest veggies to re-introduce to an upset tummy. They are easy to digest. Soft scrambled eggs are also easy to get down. Eggs are loaded with nutrition for the small quantity of food that you ingest. There's no reason to turn to high carb foods to get well. After you acclimate your digestive system to low carb, you will just make yourself sick by eating crackers, toast and noodles, foods you would eat when on high carb. Soups made with Atkins friendly meats and veggies are the healthiest way to get well from any illness.

If you have a fever, you have a cold or the real flu. You only have a fever to fight a virus or bacterial infection. Actually, a slight fever is good for you, bad for the infection. The body temperature raises to a temperature that the infection or virus cannot survive at. Unless your temp goes very high, you should not try to lower it too soon. Lowering it to normal allows the infection or virus to flourish at a temperature that keeps it growing. Hope you are feeling better soon. Sunny!
