Default Mon cher, practically speaking, ADBB flu is the worst

Harumph! Those withdrawal symptoms almost killed me! If Dr. Atkins had been alive when this board was created, I'm sure he would have included another chapter in his book. Something like "Living in the Real World: How to Survive ADBB Downtime." I tried all the remedies I knew -- another cup of veggies, snacks high in fat and protein, drinking more water, brushing my teeth more often... Nothing made the ADBB cravings go away!

It all started Wednesday afternoon (morning for the US folks). I was on ADBB when a window popped up out of the blue telling me "the domain has expired". Now, you all know I'm a very rational person. I don't trust windows. Ever! Especially those saying something I don't want to hear. So I treated it with indifference and killed it with the lethal 'X' button. It obviously didn't like my brutal ways, because it transferred itself in the window where I had ADBB opened. Now this was extreme rudeness. I was pissed off! Clicked REFRESH. Once. Twice. Nothing. Nothing?! Noooooo! REFRESH. REFRESH. REFRESH. Please REFRESH. Please? Pleasy please? Damn you!

I'm very patient in general. I really am, seriously! But not having ADBB is more than I can take. You see, when I gave up sugar, I didn't stop being an addict. No. I just substituted an addiction with another. A healthier one indeed, but an addiction nonetheless. So when I was left without my fix, despair took over. Was it only me? I was still receiving emails from the board, so others clearly didn't have the problem. Great, now what?! How am I going to let people know I am stranded?! It's like getting stuck alone in an elevator and discovering your phone ran out of battery and the emergency button is broken! No, I'm actually lying. The elevator is much better. It happened to me once and I was able to alert people by banging on the door. Now all I could bang on was the refresh button. And even that was to no avail!

I needed a rescue plan. Lyssie. She *must* know what's going on. I send her a message, she has the same problem. Paranoia sets in -- they are out to get us! It's a conspiracy! How else could you explain the fact that Lyssie *and* I cannot access the board, while others can? Do you know how many emails we exchanged on the ADBB topic? Over 50! Sure you'll say, no surprise, you talk all the time in your journals anyway. True, but you see... in the journals, we are never able to concentrate on a single topic for more than about 5 posts. And here we were, with over 50 emails. 50! That's pathetic!

While the board was down, I had time to do a lot of squats. Squats, unlike push-ups or crunches, have the advantage that you can press refresh every time you do the downward motion. That's efficiency to me!

Anyway. I'm very glad to be back. Hopefully everything will be sorted out soon and everybody will regain access to the board. *fingers crossed*

My three questions for you:

1. How efficient are you without ADBB? [My answer: I thought I waste a lot of time on the board, but I discovered I actually work better if I am able to check it throughout the day.]

2. Were you more tempted to cheat without getting advice/inspiration/etc. from the board? [My answer: No. But I've cheat-free for months, so that makes things easier.]

3. Would you keep doing Atkins if the board closed? Do you think your success on Atkins depends on ADBB? [My answer: From where I am today, I would say "yes, I would, even without the board", on the other hand I am pretty sure I would have not restarted Atkins after being more off than on this summer, if I hadn't read something here that really opened my eyes.]

Happy posting everyone!

Thumbs up Re: Mon cher, practically speaking, ADBB flu is the worst

1.) Actually, i'm more efficient when on my own.
One must realize though that I didn't find this board untill after my successful weightloss of 142 pounds. So i'm extemely efficient on my own. Though I do appreciate all the support I recieve from everyone here. I believe it is this board that has helped me with my continued success.
2.) Saying that, I was not tempted to cheat.
3.) Yes, I would continue doing Atkins, for it is my lifestyle for as long as I live. It's in my blood and my way of thinking..

Even though I didn't find this board untill after my success and continued success. I would find it very difficult to live without it now. I have made so many wonderful friends here and have learned so much, had I not found this board when I did. It's a wonderful place for me to pay it forward and share my journey. I couldn't think of a better place to do that than right here at ADBB

Probably just as efficient, but not nearly as happy!

2. Were you more tempted to cheat without getting advice/inspiration/etc. from the board?
Absolutely not. I figured that someone else had originally registered the domain and the renewal notices were going to that email and Tom didn't know. Then I figured Tom was scrambling his hardest to get it straightened out and it would be back.

I checked several of the other low carb boards, but they just don't have the right mix and feel for me.

I definitely had withdrawal symptoms!

Yes, I'd keep on. But I'm not sure how well I'd handle stalls and setbacks without it.

I might not NEED the board to stay on course, but it sure does make the journey more interesting and satisfying.

Put it this way, I did a lot of housework! I did get withdrawal symptoms on the fiftieth time I checked and got the 'this domain has expired' message. I didn't have anyones e-mail or f/b details and was feeling quite sad that I could have lost touch with everyone :-(

2. Were you more tempted to cheat without getting advice/inspiration/etc. from the board? [My answer: No. But I've cheat-free for months, so that makes things easier.]
I have to be honest here... I was going out for a birthday celebration meal last night and had already decided to be more leniant (sp?!) than normal and when I couldn't log on it made me better that I wouldn't be talked out of it! In the end, I hardly ate anything at this meal!

3. Would you keep doing Atkins if the board closed? Do you think your success on Atkins depends on ADBB? I would but I know that this board keeps me accountable and I really value the advice I get here and any kicks when I am wandering over to my carb addiction ways too.

I was laughing so hard reading this. I suppose this will teach me for not immediately hunting for it as soon as you had access. :P

1. I am less efficient at work, but apparently more efficient at messaging/emailing people repeatedly... and have now ensured that I can quickly and efficiently open a new tab, type in www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com and close the window... wait 5 minutes and repeat.

2. Nope. I am used to being alone in a cold cruel world.

3. Hmm. I had my first successful Atkins experience in 1999.. and have always gone back to the WoL before back to the board to check in. I just like the peoples!

Oh, me of little faith, quickly found the link to contact Tom on the page stating that the domain had expired. Failing that, I have his e-mail addy. Tom, being a boy child, and me being raised with all those boy children brothers, seven of them, makes me inclined to know that boy children need reminders and a "prod" once in a while. Well, okay, most of the time.

1. I am more efficient when I'm able to check the board a few times a day.

2. I was not tempted to eat more - I actually didn't know the site was down until the next morning when I got online to post my exercises for the morning and heard the rumblings about the board being "gone" the day before.

3. I would continue with Atkins without the board but I wouldn't be near as happy as I am with the board! I really enjoy coming here reading how others are doing, sending messages to people I'm buddies with -- checking in on the water challenge board to see how everyone is doing there....it's just nice to know that others are out there doing the same thing I am, struggling, euphoric at the loss of another pound, whatever type of day they are having. With Atkins I can sit at the table with my family and eat just about anything and everything they are eating - when they have potatoes I have cauliflower fixed one of 10 or more ways), when they have bread I have flax crackers, when they have corn or carrots I have broccoli or a mixture of radishes, cucumber & celery. It's all good, I'm grateful to be able to eat and not be upset that I can't have what everyone else is having then getting mad and quitting. I'm free on this WOE and I love it!!
