Yes - you can count inches or pounds lost as evidence of still losing in OWL.

Thanks, Elizellen. My mom is menopausal, 63, and eats little dairy. I think this has been harder for her than for most. I really want her to stick it out, and this helps.

I still have hope I'm working out- even got a stability ball to exchange for my chair at work, and MAN I can tell the difference in my core!!! I lost another pound today, though. I've found that if I drink a LOOOTTTT of water, I lose quicker.

Six or seven WEEKS into a stall? OMG, I would be besides myself if I saw no loss at all for 6-7 weeks. Were you shrinking during this time or was it a true stall with no weight loss/no shrinkage? WOW!!! I'm moving into OWL for the first time ever...should I expect this? I might just stay on induction!

Really...a lb of muscle weighs 3x as much as a lb of fat? So the lb of muscle actually weighs 48 ounces while the lb of fat weighs 16? Wouldn't that mean that you actually have 3lbs of muscle vs. 1lb of fat...because no matter how you look at it a lb is 16 ounces?

The point is muscle does not weigh more than fat...a lb is a lb is a lb. The difference is that muscle is dense and fat is not, so a lb of muscle is smaller in area mass than the fat.

Yes, muscle is more dense that fat. A mass of muscle occupies less volume than an equal mass of fat.

Say you have two containers, each one liter. Fill one container with human muscle and the other container with human fat. The container with muscle weighs more than the container of fat. This is why people say muscle weights more than fat.

The "1 pound of feathers is the same as a pound of lead" saying does not apply here.

This thread is very helpful to me. I was beginning to be quite discouraged by my crazy weight changes. 249->247->252-> 250->251 I have been weighing each morning and during the first part of induction I had lost 8 lbs. Since then, I have been bouncing all around the #'s. My current weight is a very stong plateau for me. I have weighed 250 or above for years, but not below it. It was AMAZING early on to see a number less than 250. I was quick to add the loss to my signature, as I updated it daily. Now I know to wait a bit before posting any weight as a sure thing. Today I weigh 249. I am following the plan faithfully. I have hypothyroidism, so I know this can affect weight, as well. I am glad for the upcoming Weigh! No Way Challenge because it will probably help me from going mad over the craziness of weighing myself so much. I guess I am a little obsessive. This has probably contributed to my weight problem, huh? You think?
Anyways! Thanks for this great thread. I am leaning on you for encouragement and reassurance that I CAN DO THIS.

I'm pretty sure that I'm a woosher now. First time around with Atkins I lost pretty steadily (it was only a year ago) but this time I tend to gain 3 and then lose 5. I think it definitely has to do with the fact that I'm exercising a whole lot more this time around. I finally broke through the little 5 pound fluctuation that I was going though and had losses for 2 days in a row (yes, I weigh myself every day, its good motivation for me). Its good timing, too. TOM is just around the corner and I never lose through that week. It would have been frustrating to have another week of fluctuation.

I know the tape measure can be a more accurate representation of actual fat loss, but there's always that seed of doubt in my mind when I don't see any changes on the scale. I start to worry that I'm doing something wrong when I start seeing gains. I guess that is just the nature of the beast this time around. I know better than to quit at this point. Atkins is the only thing that works for me, so even if I don't lose, its better than gaining.
