Are you just trying to cause waves? Everyone understands the concept, it just doesn't apply here. Seems like a pretty silly thing to be so condescending about. |

| 1lb = 16 ounces it does not matter what you are weighing...nor does it matter who is weighing it.

If you have two equal size ingots, one made of aluminum and the other of lead, do they weight the same? Of course not, lead weighs more than aluminum given an equal volume of both. To put this in diet terms: Fat has a density of 0.9 grams (g) per milliliter (ml) Muscle has a density of 1.06 g/ml If somebody loses 2 kilograms of pure fat, their body reduces in volume by this much: 2000 g / (0.9 g/ml) = 2222 ml If somebody loses 2 kg of pure muscle, their body reduces in volume by this much: 2000 g / (1.06 g/ml) = 1887 ml Obviously your loss appears greater if you lose fat, instead of muscle. Let's say you previously worked out and built muscle mass which has since atrophied. Then you go on a diet and start hitting the weights again. It's easy to gain muscle mass if you are rebuilding (as opposed to building new tissue). During this time, you lose 1kg of fat and gain 1 kg of muscle. You weight is unchanged. However, your body shrinks by 167ml. So not all pounds are created equal. Everyone agrees a pound is 16 oz and everyone else agrees that muscle weights more than fat, just like lead weighs more than aluminum. |

| Let's just drop it... seems like you both agree and are just trying to word it in differenct ways. This board is for support. If we wanted arguments, we could get those at home So my question is... do most of you girls have a big WHOOSH after TOM visits? |

I usually do get a woosh after TOM but this time around I got one just before. I lost 3 pounds overnight and one today. TOM is scheduled for tomorrow! I'll have to see what happens during/after and if I still get a woosh even though I just had one. Its never happened for me like that. Usually if anything I gain a little right before TOM because I crave salty things like crazy. |

| OK I have been doing Atkins for 7 weeks now (2 weeks ago moved to OWL rung 1). I lost 4.1kg in the first two weeks (9lb) and not a gram since. I have lost 17cm from my waist in this time though. I don't understand how I can lose those sort of measurements and not lost kgs. I guess I am still waiting for my woosh Not seeing the scale move has definitely made it hard this last 2 weeks and twice now I have given in to temptation. I am wondering if maybe I should go back to induction, while there I was never tempted at all but since I added in the extra 5g, I am craving more stuff that I know I should not be eating... Bring on the woosh I say...

You may lose more slowly when you are building muscle to replace the fat, especially at first, but your weight loss will be more efficient in the end. Your body will use more calories to maintain your muscle mass. Its definitely useful stuff. |
