I think it is important not to let the scale be your only source of inspiration. One of the things that helps me stay on the diet is that I chose to eat the food I like that is diet legal, I watch portion size reasonably, I check to see if I feel good physically and mentally and look forward to doing it again tomorrow. It takes trial and error to find out what works for you.

I find that as people experiment with their diets when something goes wrong they either give up or get upset at themselves etc. It is a lot like learning to ride a bicycle. You will fall in the beginning, you will wobble too, but in the end you get better and better at finding out what works for you if you are patient with yourself and persevere as you would learning to ride.

I would suggest that a good diet is one that you actually enjoy. I have always liked Atkins, low carb is the one way I always lose weight when I want to, but it took a while for me to find out what foods I really like, how to prepare them and what made a balanced meal for me. One thing that is important for me is to change the menu often so I don't get bored with it.

It's good to read all this. I started at 175, lost 3 pounds the first week, and another 5 during the next week and half. Somewhere in the second week of induction, I weighed in at 165, which was lovely. Then I suppose because of salt intake, I weighed closer to 170 again, then 172, and today 168. It's driving me crazy! I'm definitely avoiding the salty stuff from here on out in order to avoid the headache of worrying about the scale! This thread gives me some hope, especially because I have never weighed in below 160 in my life, and I was so happy to be approaching that barrier! Just gotta keep on truckin'! Thanks ChinaDoll for the words of wisdom! I'm off to school (I'm a teacher), but I'll have to check in later to read through all of this thread!

You are welcome bikini. And make sure your water is up there. I lose a lot faster when I am drinking at least 90 ounces a day or more.

Mmmkay, my mom gained this week and is contemplating a fish sandwich (her fave). Only a pound, but she gained a pound last week too. She is up to 30g of carbs and is inconsolable.

I feel weird telling her what to do as I average about 80g a day and my diet looks more "normal," (i.e., more like the SAD) than hers does. Also, I struggled A LOT with the carb ladder and basically upped exercise (a lot) to urge up my CCLL. She is 62 and power walks for health, but can't do much more.

Sigh.

Should I suggest that she move back to 25 grams? She is really urgent about weight loss following a not-so-good doc's visit earlier this year.

I want to tell her to ...

If she is climbing the OWL ladder then she needs to work out if the weightloss has stopped because of the different foods added or the extra net carbs added.

So perhaps dropping the foods added just before she gained and returning to the previous net carb level would help her find this out.

If she restarts losing then she needs to maybe up the net carbs with extra veg first and see if the losses continue, if she does lose in that week then try adding the next rung foods and see what happens.
