| Well, I think if you recognize that the depression is what triggers your eating, then you need to work on finding some other comfort besides food because the overeating is just making you feel more depressed. When you feel that glum, get out and do something that always makes you feel good. Exercise raises endorphins so take a bike ride or a walk. Get out of the house and away from the fridge. Or take a bubble bath and treat yourself to a spa day (you can do it at home and not spend a fortune). A little pampering and primping can make you feel a lot better. Finally it is great that you are at least staying on the right foods, but if you are stuffing in quantities to fill an emotional void, you aren't learning how to make permanent changes to your eating habits. It is not what you eat, it is why you eat that is the issue here. Finally, when I feel deprived on this Way Of Eating, I pick up the book and read it again. Sounds like you have not read it yet. It is inspiring. It changes the way you look at food. It makes you feel not alone in this. Good luck |

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | It took me a few times through it to put it all straight. I would suggest moving up to OWL though. You have more choices and many people lose faster again on OWL after grinding to a slow pace on Extended Induction. And do get out and do something to give you a change of scenery. Even if it is something goofy like the Kelly Tarleton's (sp) aquarium or a walk by the waterfront. You are in outdoor heaven in NZ. I find that being a tourist in your own town can spur your interest and maybe channel your depression into something else. |

| There is a limit of 3 to 4 ounces of cheese a day, and that includes cream cheese. You could go ahead and weigh out your total amount for the day so you know when you have had all you are allowed for the day. In the first few days you should eat when hungry. Don't feel deprived--there are tons of tasty legal foods you can eat. There are some tricks you can use until your cravings are under control and ketosis kicks in. If you know that you just ate and aren't really hungry, try drinking a glass of water and do something active, like take a walk. If after 20 to 30 minutes you still want something to eat, then get a legal snack and give all of your attention to eating it. Don't watch TV or do anything else but eat. Eat slowly, really thinking about the taste. Sometimes we gulp food so fast we barely taste it. It takes a while to get in the swing of things, so don't think you've blown it because you ate a lot. It gets easier every day that you progress farther into the program.

| cheese can trigger me. If I eat american cheese (in the microwave) I can seriously eat 16 slices... ufff I had to stop buying it for my daughters because I couldn't resist once I started. Cream cheese with splenda to. I can NEVER make it because I will eat the whole pack... I just don't ever make it I stick to blue cheese... really who can pig out on that??? You eat a bit and then you are done haha... You don't need cheese or cream. They aren't required parts of atkins, so if you have a problem with them. Don't keep them in the house. Also make sure you are eating enough during the day so that you don't binge. Try to find food you like to eat so that you don't feel deprived..
