| The GB is just a sac that holds bile. When fat enters the small intestine, GB is stimulated and bile is excreted. The bile helps break down the fat by emulsification. If GB is absent, bile is directly excreted by the liver via the common bile duct. Some patients experience a dumping syndrome after cholecystectomy.Similar to what one will experience after taking xenical.Usually you will adapt to this.I wouldn't let it affect my high fat,low carb diet.Obesity is a much greater problem than anything not having a GB can throw at you. |

| My answer may appear in that other old thread, but I'll tell you that my doctor didn't place any restrictions on my eating after surgery. I don't recall having anything other than occasional discomfort as I continued to eat my regular diet, which at the time was junky and high carb. I've been doing low-carb for over five years and haven't had any trouble at all with the high fat aspect. I hope your surgery and recovery is a snap. Mine wasn't bad at all. I just felt a bit sore, as if I'd done 1000 push-ups. The worst part was the first few hours while the gas the pump into your abdominal cavity dissipates and gives you crampy pains. After that, you shouldn't feel very bad. |

| http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIPsyOUf_Jc&feature=related Hello Regina, I am so sorry you are having problems with you gallbladder! I hear that can really hurt. Over the last few years I have become more and more interested in preventative and natural medicine instead of prescription/surgery based medicine. I have benefited from this greatly through my own health issues, some very serious. I am not a doctor and do not guarantee this will work but have seen people on youtube and other internet sites claiming to be able to remove gallstones naturally, quickly, inexpensively and without surgery. If I were in your shoes, I would try this first. I hope this helps!

| I had my gallbladder removed and I'm doing Atkins just fine. I know a lot of women who gained weight after having their gallbladders removed, so I think hopping on Atkins once you are feeling better would stop that from happening... I wouldn't be afraid of doing Atkins... |

| I think you will have to feel your way after your gallbladder is removed. Different people react differently to the removal of the gallbladder. I was doing low fat/low calorie when I had to have my gallbladder removed. I did have a problem with fatty foods right after the surgery, but I was not eating much anyway. I had more trouble digesting raw foods, like salad greens and apples. It took about a year to be able to eat all foods without any problems. It has been many years, and I no longer have any problem digesting fats or raw veggies. Atkins and high fat makes me feel better than I have in years. A lot of people have no problem right from the start. My niece had hers out last year and came to our family reunion within a week of the surgery and she was eating everything and never had a problem at all. Even if you cannot do strict Atkins for a while is no reason to go back to eating high carb/low nutrition. There are digestive enzymes that you can take to help with digestion.

| Another gall bladder sufferer! My other half suffers terribly from his, as does my mum, and her partner too. They are all having theirs removed this month (20th, 27th, May 1st) but they have each been told to eat low carb in the meantime to prepare for the way they'll have to eat after surgery, so it sounds good to me I wish you all the best for your surgery and a fast recovery!

| I had mine out and had no problems whatsoever with any food. My sister-in-law had difficulty digesting eggs at first. Another friend had problems with chicken skin and a few other things but her problems passed once she was adapted to it. I think you need to go slowly and expect things to take a few months. If you have a problem with a food then give it a few months and try it again. It was just after this I started Atkins the last time. And I did just fine with it. As Sunny suggested, you will need to find your own way with this but it may be less difficult than you think! |

| Thank you all Everything I had been reading was so negative and dire warnings about eating just about any fat at all. Your posts are very reassuring. I really did not want to go off Atkins. It is the only way of eating that has consistently worked for me and made me feel better. That is, as long as I behave and do what I should! Even if I am one of those that reacts badly to fat at first, I will work my way back to it
