Default STEVIA question...

Ok, so I relly am trying to stay away from artificial sweeteners in general - but what about Stevia? I really don't know a lot about it - but is it considered an "artificial" sweetener?

Does it still have the same affect as artificial sweetners do? (as far as any 'sweet' taste making your insulin rise for those who are very sensitive)?...

I made some of my own "whip cream" last night by putting 2 tbsp of heavy cream into this perfect size bowl I've got and used one blade with my hand mixer - but it was WAY too rich and not 'sweet' enough...I've got a small bottle of liquid stevia in my cabinet, but didn't use it (just used 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract, and that really didn't work - it was still way too rich).

I'd really love to have some whipped cream as I make my own jello using unsweetened kool-aid (linda's website recipe) - however it's just a little tart and obviously not sweet enough - being that I have no sugar in it (i did use a little bit of the stevia in the jello, but u can't taste sweet in it at all)...

Stevia is probably the best choice as it is a natural product, (if your lucky, there are some knock-offs that might contain stevia but are not) but it has a funny aftertaste that I am not found of. I really like it in yogurt but hate it in coffee. Try it, use it sparingly, and if first you don't like the taste, try it in other stuff. It's to expensive not to use

I saw an ad last night for a brand-new Stevia-based sweetener. Home Page - Truvia™ - Nature's Perfect Sweetness™

Just got released on the market. Curious to hear/see any reports back on those who try it.

Personally, I love Stevia, the liquid kind (no after taste). If I can't use Stevia I use no sweetener at all. It used to be a supplement offered at natural food stores before they discovered that it could be used as a sweetener too.

I've used the truvia. I don't know much about it I just used it a few times to sweeten some tea. It has a really nice fruity smell and tastes pretty great. It didn't stall me or give me any stomach issues either.

Truvia is the knock-off that I was talking about.... I don't get it, the list of ingredients say:
erythritol listed first then rebiana. Where does the stevia come in, Erythritol is a sugar alcohol. RIP OFF

Rebiana is the trade name[1] for a zero-calorie sweetener containing mainly the steviol glycoside rebaudioside A (reb-A), which is extracted from stevia
Okay there it is.
BY THE WAY --- Truvia has 3 g of carbs per package, which since we count sugar alcohols we need to count.

Interesting. Nice legwork tracking this down. I'm convinced that avoiding any sweeteners is good for my sweettooth, so I wasn't tempted to try it anyway. Curious to see how it does in the market.

I love Stevia - the only complaint I have is that is doesn't hold up to heating - it loses sweetness, at least that I have noticed. When I purchase it I notice two different kinds - one cut with dextrose and the other with natural fiber. I get the one with fiber and it tastes great.

Lots of people have used combinations of stevia and erythritol with good results. Yes you have to count the carbs or half the carbs or whatever because of the sugar alcohol, but its been pretty good for me. I'd honestly recommend it though I also recommend trying to stay away from sweeteners in general. I have a cold and need a little sweetness with my tea.
