Default am i having too much fat??

ok i found out i wasnt eating enough fat,so since then i've added olive oil to my lean meats.i'm not cooking the oil, just pourring it over my food when its ready to eat.and only with lean poultry where the fat content is like 2%.

but is it possible to have TOO MUCH FAT?? i'm terrible with measurements.i would say for a plate of 200g chicken,i will add 1/4 to 1/2 a cup (normal mug for like tea or something) of olive oil to the chicken.

i'm on induction by the way.

Anything in excess is to much. I would suggest you use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and see how much fat you are getting Need to measure though

A 1/4 or 1/2 cup of olive oil is way too much. A 1/2 cup contains 960 calories and 112 grams of fat. All you need to add is a tablespoon or two at the most. Get you some measuring spoons and measure until you get the hang of judging quantity.

It wouldn't put you out of ketosis, but there is a limit on calories you can eat and still lose weight. If you eat way more calories than your body needs to function, you will be in ketosis but not losing and possibly gaining. (Page 143) Dr. Atkins said not to count calories, but that calories do count (matter). The fat and protein should fill you up until you have no desire to over-eat. He also said that you can eat more calories than on a low fat/high carbohydrate diet, but that is not a license to gorge.

We have many people that are in ketosis, but not losing weight. If you treat it as an all you can eat diet, it will not work. The metabolic advantage is good for a couple hundred extra calories, but you can't eat 4,000 calories a day and expect to lose weight.

This is why you need to read the book and know all the ins and outs before trying to do the program blind.

Also, rather than add it to your meat where it runs off and probably isnt very appetizing, try adding it to your salad dressings instead. Or have a little extra mayo with a tuna salad, or a little extra butter when you fry your eggs. FITDAY makes it so easy to keep track.

Listen to the ladies!! Fitday is awesome. I've slacked off using it and started again the past few days. I feel like it's soooo important while on induction. You can use it as a really important tool to make sure your percentages to fat, protein and carbs are correct. I love it. Get lazy with it sometimes and don't input every single day but I'm going to work on that for awhile. It's good to revisit...even when you're sure you know!

I've had to start watching my portions and paying attention to calories. I'm pretty active and sometimes think I need more calories than I do. If I ate as many calories now as I did during parts of induction and extended induction, I'd probably gain weight! Just remember to use fitday and see what works best for you. If you track your weight and exercise there, it'll make it much easier for you see where your target areas are for continued losses.

One thing we tend to forget is that the lower our weight, the less calories we need to sustain weight and muscle mass. We burn way more calories when we exercise at a higher weight, just to move the heavier body. As our weight goes down, we need to slowly reduce calories to compensate for less caloric output to move the smaller and more fit body. Or, we need to keep increasing exercise to burn the extra calories over what is need for everyday body functions.

Here's an example of how many calories burned at different weights:

Edited to add: that didn't work, so I will just give the link.

Quote:
Calories burned during exercise is affected by body weight, intensity of workout, conditioning level and metabolism. Calories burned per hour are listed below for the example body weights of 130, 155 and 190 pounds.
Calories Burned During Exercise
Another thought is that we are allowed unlimited calories (enough to prevent hunger--not gorging) and fat during induction, which is the first few weeks. Dr. Atkins did not say that we could eat unlimited calories and fat indefinitely or forever. If you eat until satisfied and not stuffed, soon your appetite diminishes and we naturally control calories. We re-learn to eat until satisfied, then stop--even if there is food left on the plate.

When you move up the carb ladder to add in more good carbs, we cut back on fat. If you continue to eat massive amounts of fat while adding in more carbs, you will stop losing and might gain. Protein stays the same, but the carb to fat ratio continually evolves until you reach that magic CCLL and then CCLM. We still eat and enjoy fats, but not at the amounts we did during induction.
