| It's definitely the blood sugar. The symptoms you mention ("I would get irritable, miserable", "I would feel faint and sick") appear in the Blood-Sugar Symptom Test on page 150 of DANDR, indicating blood-sugar stress. In fact many people, when they move to OWL, forget how broad the spectrum of blood-sugar stress symptoms actually is -- they only consider a food to be a "trigger" if it causes them hunger/cravings, when in reality there are so many other symptoms one should look for. Good job for getting things under control!

I believe that the best way to overcome temptation is not with willpower, which is so often in short supply, but with our brain power, a potentially unlimited resource. Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | Georgiana, I had forgotten about that test. I took it the first time I read the book and scored 91. I just took it again, and this time my score was 19!!! I'm so glad you mentioned watching for that in OWL, also. I'll be extra vigilant! |

| Ditto - it's a huge relief that hunger doesn't feel like falling off a cliff anymore. Now it's a gentle feeling that I should eat something in the next hour or so. Very liberating! |

| Yes. I know just what you mean. After about a month on Atkins I realized that I don't have to wait for a "good mood" to do something. I'm pretty happy pretty much all of the time these days. Cheers, -John- |

| Atkins is the perfect diet for hypoglycemics... Not being a slave to having to eat when the stomach cramps come and the dizzy spells is SO great! |
