| Since you're on rung 1 I'm guessing that you're recently out of induction? I'm copying this from another post since it comes up all the time! PISS (post induction stall syndrome) (1) When you start Atkins induction, your body dumps a lot of water along with the stored glycogen, and there are other hormonal things going on that promote water loss. So you lose several pounds of water, sometimes more. You may even get slightly dehydrated at first. (2) As you continue on induction, your body begins to adapt to the reduced carb intake. Water retention is gradually normalized, so that you are no longer dehydrated. A pound to several pounds of water weight may gradually return. (3) As the small amount of water weight gradually returns, you're also gradually burning fat. The water weight increase is offset by the fat loss, showing a net slowdown or even "stall" on the scale, sometimes even a small increase on the scale. (4) As you continue low-carbing, the gradual loss of weight in the form of body fat will finally start showing up, and you'll start seeing the scale moving down again. This whole process may encompass a period of a month or more. Seeing the scale stop changing, or even a small increase in weight is therefore pretty normal for many Atkins dieters, and is not a reason to drastically change the diet or start doing a radically hypocaloric thing. It is always a good idea, at any stage, to be careful about your carb intake, to make sure you're correctly charting your carb intake. If, after four weeks past induction, you are not seeing the scale start to move, then you probably want to look at ways to get past the stall. A true stall is not diagnosed, by the way, unless you've gone 6 weeks without loss on the scale or in inches. Methods such as counting calories, stepping up exercise, increasing or decreasing carb intake, cutting out certain types of foods can be tried, preferably not all at one time (so you know what is working and what isn't). Also be aware that on low-carb diets, many people (not just women) seem to lose weight intermittently, rather than gradually. They will go along sometimes for several weeks with nothing showing up on the scale, and then all of a sudden, in one day or over a couple days, lose several pounds. Nobody seems to know why, but this seems particularly common to low-carb dieting. Patience is a good trait for low-carb dieters to work on. |

| OH!! Don't look at half a pound as an actual gain!! It doesn't take much water to equal one half pound. You're doing everything right! Don't give up or get discouraged. This is a rite of passage...most everyone gets to experience this along the way. Your body will reach a magic number of carbs and start to drop weight. It just takes time and learning. Keep your chin up! Remain faithful to this WOE...pay the price and it'll pay ya back! I promise. |

| Miranda -- give yourself some credit and don't go so hard on yourself! A half a pound could be water, it could be part of the last meal you had, it could be TOM but it's very little to worry about -- 15 pound gain would be more to worry about. Check your measurements, you are just out of induction so your body is still getting use to eating completely differently than before. The article about PISS is soooooo true!!! I didn't know what it was when it happened to me, I thought I was going to only loose 16 pounds and never loose again -- it takes a little longer when you get older and if you're on any meds that adds to the slowness.....the end of the first month I didn't look a bit different -- the end of the 2nd month I was starting to see a difference....the 3rd month is when things really started changing for me. Breathe -- you're doing everything right!!

| THanks for the encouragement. Believe me I am not going to give up cause I have sooooooo much energy and I feel soooooooo good!!!!! I did measure this morning and to my surprise I have lost inches! Oh I was so excited! I couldn't believe it! I am going to post that in the 6WEC challenge results now!!!!!! I suppose some pounds will drop later. Thanks again for all of your encouragement. I shouldn't get so down. I realize that a half a pound is not the end of the world but it is about that TOM and I tend to get really emotional and make something of nothing. (ask my family they will tell you!) Everyone, have a good Saturday. It the rain holds off at 1 when I get off from work I am going to walk outside at the park. If it starts raining I am going to go home and hop on the treadmill.

| Inches lost are wonderful. Just imaging how much better you would be looking. I am so many sizes smaller now than what I was last time I was this weight. It is strange but good. Since I am not a friend of the scale (but I need something to keep me accountable) I have started to watch how my clothes fit. It is working out better for me.

| Thanks you all! Yes, how the clothes fit. My pants are no longer digging into my waist! Plus I use to strecht out my work shirts before I put them on cause they were a little snug. I no longer do that either. Oh, the benefits of this way of life!!!!
