Default Re: Can you help explain my rapid weight loss?

Speaking of '92, I recall now where I got the idea to hold off on the veggies until I was at least out of induction. Dr. Atkins himself once advised his patients with a high metabolic resistance to go on meat and eggs only. No salad, no veggies, no other carbs but the carbs in eggs. This recommendation came as a result from testing he did to construct a sure-fire weight loss method even for people with a metabolic resistance who would struggle to lose weight even on a very restrictive Atkins diet.

Not knowing my body too well, but suspecting I was metabolically resistant, I decided to take his advice and use it during my inductions (which have always been very successful). He even went so far as to suggest that kind of diet for life, if need be, so I wasn't concerned about the health aspects. I just wanted to mention this backstory to explain why I'd started with meat and eggs only. I'm adding in veggies as we speak, so not to worry; I'll tackle the rest of my phases using the latest revision.

Oh, I see... I would have expected someone who had lost "30 pounds in six weeks" his first time and "20 pounds in 20 days" his second time to realize he is not metabolically resistant. Because if you read the whole book, you would know how Dr. Atkins defined metabolic resistance. Anyway, I hope you now know that you are not metabolically resistant.

So unless you are German and the "cheese" you ate was fleischkäse, your menus did not consist of "meat and eggs only".

Each time I followed the same induction and extended it, that is, by eating meat and eggs only, with the occasional cheese as I do now. You might not be please to know I lost all that weight previously following the same basic induction as I am now. Who's to say if I was metabolically resistant or simply following the Dr. Atkins-inspired method to lose weight even I had been? By adopting his method that works even for the metabolically resistant, I was -and still am- covering my bets either way.

I mentioned cheese because I have had some, along with the other items not under the meat and eggs category, but it's a very insignificant amount. The amount of my induction diet(s) which has been meat and eggs only is somewhere in the high percentile of the 90s. I hate the taste of cheese, but as with the other items, I included it because it's been "there" (albeit in very small quantities by comparison to the amount of meat and eggs). Hardly enough to make a difference.

Default Re: Can you help explain my rapid weight loss?

So with all this finger pointing I thought I might offer some constructive information. Your main question is Why are you losing weight so fast?

I can understand why you would be worried about this as losing that fast is probably taking a big toll on your body. My suggestion is to start adding the vegetables in to your diet. This will surely slow your weight loss to a healthier level. Science has proven that if you lose weight too rapidly you are more likely to gain it all back plus extra.

I can understand some of what others are saying about trying to follow DANDR 2002 as close as possible. The main reason for doing so is to lay the correct foundation for a good steady healthy weight loss and provide you with the tools (knowledge) to change bad habits which in turn helps you maintain that loss.

This is a process that isn't going to happen over night. Lets face it, there are alot of people on this board that jump into Atkins without ever reading the book which can also be seen as not doing Atkins appropriately. Many of us wean ourselves off of caffiene (being that the book says 'should avoid' rather than 'must avoid'). Rather than bashing someone for what they are doing wrong I'd rather support them and try to help them through one of the toughest times of their life.

So, if you have any other specific questions I am sure that their are many of us that would like to try to help. It sounds like you have an understanding of what you should be doing but need to work up the will power to do it. As hard as it may be to do so, the best step is to read the book. I keep mine at home and when I hit a wall I go back through it. EVERYTIME I find something I am doing WRONG or not doing exactly RIGHT. Nobody's perfect.

"You don't know unless you ask".
I hope you continue to ask questions DD. That's how we learn. For one thing, it brings out the passion that folks have about doing Atkins accurately and effectively. It certainly show just how passionate in this thread.
Wishing you the best of health and lite.
Enjoy your veggies!

Unhappy Re: Can you help explain my rapid weight loss?

I really hope that this thread helped DD with his jourey. That would make me happy.
What saddens me is that this thread ran off an excellent and very successful Atkineer and one I regard as a friend, Chicklady. Her presence is missed here on the board. The CC misses her and she gave up as one of our Spot light hostesses, never to post on the board again. She's merely an observer here now. I miss her input. Very sad indeed!

It wasn't unusual for me to lose 20 or 25 pounds during initial Induction, but then I started at nearly 500 pounds. It is all relative.
