| I'm going to pick up AFL today (too curious not to). I'll report back as I read through it any additional insights I find, or any key distinctions between DANDR2002 and AFL. Stay tuned.

| AFL is more geared for folks on Atkins Maintenance. The alcohol thing is one of the bigger examples of the difference and a greater discussion/emphasis on the glycemic index. But nothing else earth-shaking. Oh the question might arise, why ADBB follows DANDR2002 and not incorporate some AFL changes..... I wasn't part of the moderators at the time AFL was published, but from what I understand, the moderators and administrators back then discussed it and decided that we would stick with DANDR 2002 to avoid confusion. See at that time, Atkins Nutritionals Inc. was changing things around: tomatoes were put on the salad veg list and the other list (inspite of its glycemic index), it was okay to eat Atkins brand bread/muffins/cookies during Induction eventhough they contained non-induction thing like oat flour, wheat flour, etc. So they decided to stick to DANDR 2002, otherwise they would be revising the diet themselves.

| That makes sense to me. I'm glad there are no earth shattering changes, which just confirms that a sound DANDR2002 is the way to go. As a student of Atkins, I'll pick it up anyway since I'll eventually need to read it as I get to maintenance. Actually, it will help with visualizing myself a year from now when I'm on maintenance, so it will be a good exercise for me to pick it up. Thanks again for the insights, Megs...

| Hmm. Why not? Did you not get anything out of it? (It's not as if it's ever going to be updated....)

| I thought it was very little on the WOE pre-maintenance and geared more for after goal, which is fine. If I were you, I would check out the library and see if they had it before I would spend my money on it, then if you like it, you could purchase it. LOL. If I could find my old copy, I would send it to you. |

I remember when it was published alot of newbies were confused because it didn't tell you much about Induction, OWL or Pre-Maintenance. The useful thing for the weight loss phases is the "eat this" charts in the OWL section of AFL. Elleth copied those charts into an OWL forum stickie.

| I find the book inspirational, Atkins for Life, and also cautionary. For example, after reading AFL you may really truly accept that you might not be able to eat more than one slice of bread a day for the rest of you life! Or you get used to the idea that if you eat bananas you might be eating them a half a banana at a time once you are maintaining. That is the cautionary part! But the life stories and explanations of how to make it work long term I found to be just the push I needed to get in the groove and say yep... this is if for me permanently. Definitely not a stand-alone book on how to do Atkins, but excellent for it's purpose... 'the rest of the story.'
