Default Atkins

So I started Atkins (again) on May 1st. I did okay the first day but towards the end of the day I got a really bad sugar fit and gave into my cravings. I ended up eating a bag of twizzlers, two glazed donuts, and 3/4 of a box of Rocky Road ice cream. I felt good that I had the carbs but disappointed that I let myself down. I always so I will do better tomorrow but tomorrows are never ending. So today I realized I need to really put an effort in. I am so far pleased with my results. So fat today I had a bag os italian dried salami (8 carbs total), 3 diet mountain dews (3 carbs total)and 3 sausage patties (zero carbs total) So I still have about 9 carbs give or take to ingest so I am going to have a spinach leaf salad with cucumber. Right now I am drinking a bottled water. I really want to start working on my water intake because it so so essential to get enough water to flush everything out of my system and keep my hydrated. I feel like having a diet soda is my only outlet into having something sweet and, lol, it feels oh so good going down But I am happy for going through my first day the Atkins Way. I am going to do better and incorporate the Atkins Lifestyle in my life. When I replace my Ipod (which is broken) this week I am going to start exercising on the treadmill and exercise bike to lose as much weight as I can. It is hard ridding my body of all the bad carbs but I know I just need to take it day by day. One of my biggest things I need to get over though is not being able to go out to the bar/club and drinking with my best friend Bud Light...wish me luck!

Hi.

I imagine you are in Induction...

Aspartame should be avoided whenever possible because it stalls many people, so Mountain Dew is a really bad choice. I am more concerned about the salami though... 8 carbs?! What on earth does it have in it and how much did you eat? The ones I find where I live typically have 450 calories and 2 carbs in something like 4 oz. So to consume 8 carbs from salami, one should either eat 16 oz or the salami must have sugars and other "illegal" stuff in it. Salami also has a lot of sodium, approximately 2000 mg in 4 oz, which will lead to water retention and it does no good to your blood pressure either.

Remember also that over half of your net carbohydrates should come from vegetables. Since you are limited to 20 net carbs per day and you had 11 from salami and soda, your carb intake from foods other than veggies is too high.

Avoid processed foods and frankenfoods as much as possible. Eat "real" meat, fish and poultry and work on your water and vegetables. Tweak your menus a little and start exercising, and then results will come. Happy losing.

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

Good luck CDUDE. Breaking the habit of carbs is hard. For me, I had to give up caffeine and especially the artificial sweeteners because they just made me crave sweets and carbs even more! (So the Mountain Dew would kill me!) It was a tough few days when I broke my addiction to carbs, artificial sweeteners, and caffeine, but I feel so much better now. Good luck on your journey!

I also think your cravings stem from the diet Mountain Dew. You should eliminate it and fight your sugar cravings, they will only last a couple of days. Try eating dill pickles or olives, something sour as your body won't know the difference.
