| Yes, pretty/face, this has happened to me in the past, a number of years ago. For a long time, I didn't dare eat broccoli, because if I did, I just wanted to crawl into a black hole and die. I'm not sure why it affected me this way, because I had been able to eat it before, and I'm able to eat it now. Mind you, I eat only the frozen, then cooked broccoli. I'm a little timid about trying broccoli raw. I'll probably never know why it happened. I find that raw green peppers also "hurt", yet cooked green peppers, or any of the coloured peppers (raw or cooked) are fine. I'd suggest you stay away from broccoli, use cauliflower instead, and try some of the pumpkin "recipes" out there. Pumpkin has awesome vegie carbs and fibre in it. Stay healthy, Suzanne

| hm interesting... cow milk does that to me, and i have barely touched the stuff in probably 10 years. but whats weird is milk hurts my stomach, but cheese/icecream/heavy cream etc doesnt bother me at all. I remember eating cereal in the morning before elementary school, then going and laying down in bed for 10 minutes to wait for my stomach to stop hurting. i did that all the time and thought it was normal cause no one told me any different. finally figured it out when i was old enough to pay attention to it. It wasn't like an oh im going to throw up hurt, it just hurt. I've never had that experience with broccoli though. you might try eating it more well-done, maybe that'd be easier to digest? i'm a freak that way personally, I like to steam the ever-living-crap out of my broccoli and mash it all up with some butter like mashed potatoes.

are you eating broccoli raw or cooked? Are you rinsing it before eating? If you are feeling bad eating it raw I'd switch and eat it cooked to see if you have the same problem. you really need to find more vegetables you will eat....when I first started Atkins I only ate 5 or 6 .... now I'm always trying something new - some I like and some I don't but I don't make the decision until I've tried it. Your tastebuds will change overtime and things you don't think you like you will learn to.... one of my favorite veggies now are radishes -- I cut them into chunks, add onion and fry them -- they taste just like fried potatoes! Last night I had chayote (mexican squash) - I made it like fried apples and you couldn't tell the difference....you have to get more creative and broaden your food choices. good luckk

| I always have that problem but only with COOKED brocolli. I never questioned it as I don't like the smell of cooked brocolli, I preffer it raw. |

| Here's one idea... Broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are all from the same family and have been known to cause gas (and therefore gas pain). You could try taking a Beano or other gas pill just before you eat the broccoli and see if that counteracts the gas production that may be giving you the cramps. |

but that was only because of carbs high ammounts of carbs big time damaged my gut but now that im on the Atkins diet i can eat giant bowl full's of broccoli and fattening meat and get no Gut pains or gas at all it took me 6 months on the Atkins diet to cure my Gut illnesses which helped save my life really really really old frozen broccoli from the freezer causes problems but different problems i find the broccoli that works the best is Fresh broccoli thats not frozen then you rinse it under water for a sec then chop it and avoid the stems try eating mostly just the top parts then cook it for around 2 mins with lots of butter then after 2 mins have passed add feta cheese or something and let it cook for another 2 more mins so total 4 mins cooking i dont like the taste of raw brocoli thats why i just cook it for a tiny bit and never cook it for too long or els it can ruin the nutrients and also when its ready get all the dripings and what not from the pan that it was cooked in and eat that too cause some nutrients are leaked into that |

| Bingo!! Now I only eat the "florets" The stems are what seems to give me gas and cramps... Been eating 2 well steamed cups a day for weeks and no issues like when I was eating the stems as well as the tops! Give it a try ~ Dana ~ |
