I will get to the point where I am addicted to exercise--have a hard time taking my rest days--then BAM, something stops me (serious surgery twice in 90 days last year) and when I attempt to start back up, I have to force myself. ![]() I have always known that exercise as soon as I get out of bed has me rockin' & rollin' for the rest of the day. I have way more energy and feel soooo much better. Do I get up every day and take advantage of this wonderful, magical energy elixir? Not on your life! It's like pulling teeth! Lucky for me, a new member started a "Wake Up Sleepyhead" challenge to get us going in the morning. If I commit to other people to do something, I will do it whether I want to or not. If you have trouble with getting started with exercise, join one of the many exercise challenges and make a pledge of commitment and just do it!

| Day 1. This time around I started exercising the first week of induction, but when I did Atkins the first time, I was already working out regularly. As Atkins says, its non-negotiable. Walking is great, you don't have to run a marathon, just be active. You can also incorporate activity into your daily life, like walking around every time you are on the phone, parking far away from the store and taking those extra steps....it adds up

| I started walking on the treadmill around my third week... I had lost 10 lbs by then and everything didn't hurt so much (feet etc...) Started out at 10 minutes and now I'm up to 35 minutes... |

| Starting is the hardest part for me even after four years of it. Do something. A walk around the block is a great way to start. You will find that exercising helps get rid of that lethargic feeling and lifts your spirits as well, especially if you exercise outdoors. Make it a little longer/faster each day. Then add in another exercise type as an alternate to keep your body guessing--swimming, weights, pilates - whatever. I like weights and pilates in addition to walking because it not only burns calories but also changes the way your body looks. |

My own personal thought is to start on day 1 (even if its 5 minutes on my lateral thigh trainer), as not only does that make me realise its not so bad..(as I'm not a huge exercise fan), but it often prompts me to do another 5 minutes. Plus the more exercise you do, the quicker you burn those unwanted carbs. Then when I get the induction flu (round day 3 and 4) I too, dont' do much as I feel really crap and lethargic. But as soon as it leaves, I force myself to get going, again, I just say only 10minutes.. and then at least if I do 10minutes i don't feel like I've done nothing, and then the next day I say 13minutes.. (often I find I start feeling so good I continue and do much more.. which makes me feel doubly good about myself) Get going slowly.. take baby steps and get them out the way.. then the rest of the day is yours. Its amazing how good you will feel afterwards x |

| I agee about the exercising part, I am on day 11. I don't know how much I have lost but I have been using clothes as my way to tell. I have shorts that had become too snug. I tried them on yesterday and they are not as tight. That gives me hope. I have done this diet before, and this time around decided to definitely exercise. I lost before with no exercise. Thought this time with exercise will increase my weight loss. Good luck and you will be fine. |
