Default Good Sources of FAT?

So far we have:

Olive oil & Butter.... anything else? We are looking for stuff to drowned or drizzle on our food for a good source of FAT intake... I don't think we are getting enough fat.

Can you eat too much fat?

Hubby is down 2 inches, I am UP 3 .... grrrrr! I know, its only day 4... got to be patient!

You could eat too much fat, not too likely though, in my opinion.

If you need something very light to saute' or use for salad dressing, I like grapeseed oil, very healthy and versatile. Sometimes olive oil's flavor is more than you want.

Avocados are an incredible source of 'good for you' fats. And tasty too!

You don't have to eat a large quantity of fat to get 65% of your calories from it, because fat is calorie dense food. Track your meals in FitDay or something similar, to see where your percentages are.

If you eat more calories than you are consuming, be it in the form of fat, protein or carbohydrates, you will gain weight. You do have a metabolic advantage on Atkins, which allows you to eat about 300 calories more than on a "regular" diet, but that's about it. However, ketosis brings along appetite suppression, so if you eat only when hungry or when you went for 6 hours without eating, then you should not worry about counting calories. On the other hand, if you have the tendency to overeat, it might be good to keep an eye on calories.

It's quite easy to get the necessary fat in your diet. Use dressings on salads (no sugar added, less than 2 carbs/tbsp of dressing), a dip for vegetables, some cooked veggies, plus eggs, olives, avocados, cream... The fat adds up fast.

About inches. You can post your menus in the "Review My Menu" forum and then we can see if anything there can be improved based on Dr. Atkins' Rules of Induction from DANDR 2002.

Thanks, I have noticed my appetite going down!

I will check out fitday, as for my menu its pretty basic... although your all going to razz us about not getting many veggies in. Its pretty much Bacon, 2 eggs and 2 sausage patties cooked in butter and bacon grease every morning (yes, the bacon and sausage are sugar and carb free). For lunch its either chicken or beef and for dinner, pretty much the same... chicken or beef. We are drinking a lot of water and walking every night.

Yesterday (and the other 2 days) I ate WAY too much cheese, today, I've had none. We are having a lasagna for dinner, that is where I will get my cheese and veggies in.

You should try to spread your carbs (veggies) out throughout the day. They will get digested more slowly and evenly if spread out & eaten with protein/fat.

By my calculations, Linda's Spinach Lasagne has 2 cups of "other" veggies in 1/6 of the recipe - so watch your portions! You really should only be having a very small piece of this on induction (1/12) if you are following DANDR 2002.
