Smile Stall ended, and pounds now flying off faster than ever!

Thank God for this forum. Countless times I have read the words of those who have succeeded in this WOL and have already been in the places I have yet to go. One bit of wisdom I often hear quoted by the winners is a warning against panic and discouragement. Also time and again we are encouraged to do this "BY THE BOOK" Again, my own experience has confirmed their wisdom.

I had a Story-Book Atkins Success story for the first half year. Pounds flying off and thrilled friends and doctors, smaller clothes sizes and an explosion of energy. Then I added weight lifting and cardio to my life a few months afterwards. Yes, I dragged my feet until the excess energy I was getting drove me to follow the rest of Dr Atkins' plan. The difference was immediate!~ The Atkins Diet is actually a weight lifter's dream diet, and my muscles started growing like crazy on the regimen (I use a super-slow protocol when I lift). My blood pressure and resting pulse went south fast not too long after the cardio workouts started.

The, I made the same mistake I did 10 years ago when I first looked into this WOL. Plain and simple...I presumed. I presumed I had a much higher CCLL than I really did. I never stopped to actually closely observe and define that level. I started to eat small amounts of purely bad stuff like potato and other starches. The occasional pizza slice as well after a large workout. I got the predictable result when the scale stopped moving. My waist stopped shrinking.

For a few weeks I pondered this like it was some difficult and unfathomable proposition in quantum physics. But, I did not change the behavior. Thank God I kept working out, with even more enthusiasm and drive, if not results on the scale. My muscles continued to grow and my cardio health and capacity improved even more. Still, the scale remained stopped.

Then about two weeks ago it hit me. The thought came clearly in my head

"YOU HAD YOUR BEST SUCCESS ON THE EXTENDED INDUCTION...GO BACK TO IT!!!!!!"

So simple. How the **** did it take me over a month to remember it? Go figure.

So after a little less that two weeks back on the Induction level, the scale is in a free-fall downward. My new greatly enhanced lean muscle mass has been doing its proper job now that it has been freed from excessive carb intake, and I am down 12 lbs. I am not kidding.

My energy in yesterday's grueling cardio workout was phenomenal. I burned 950+ calories in 65 minutes. Only ill effect noticed today is a slight soreness in my feet, but one that always fades a day or two after such a workout.

I will stay on extended induction for another few months and then try upping the (good) carbs again SLOWLY and a lot more deliberately than I did before.

In the meantime, thank you all for the way I feel today, and the way I felt yesterday during that workout. I don't know if I have ever felt more alive or stronger in my entire life. I look forward to many more such days and experiences.

So here is the sum of my newly acquired wisdom:

" DO IT LIKE IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK!!! EXERCISE! DRINK WATER! DON'T PANIC IF THE SCALE STOPS MOVING AND DON'T GET DISCOURAGED EITHER! VISIT THIS WEBSITE AND TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUCCEEDED!!!"

In other words.....I have absolutely nothing new or original to add. All the wisdom has already been laid down for us here and in DANDR. Just follow the advice and we will succeed!

I replied to you but don't know what happened. Thank you for sharing your story. It's ones like this that will help me as I progress. I can see how easily anyone could have done that. Again, thank you and congrats on the WL.

Major congratulations. It's great hearing about your victories. Your experiences remind me that the more I can stick to the book, the less the weight will stick on me! Keep it up!

ya this diet is one of the best body building diets too

i walked alot for awhile like 15 hours a week but i could not get lower then 300 pounds

then i whent on the Atkins diet with 15 hours of walking a week and whent to 250 pounds and stalled at 250

found out the stall was caused by these 10 net carb very thin whole wheat high fiber wraps.. i see why whole wheat is a Rung 9 food now xD

i stoped eating them and whent down to 230 pounds

then i was just 230 pounds for along time but still did not look all that hot

then i started going to the gym and heavy weight lifting and stuff and cut my walking down too 7.5 hours a week and have been doing that for over a year now

i must have lost another 40 pounds of fat and gained 40 pounds of muscle since going to the gym and lifting heavy weights

and now i look ALOT better while still being 230 pounds

and now recently i only walk 5 hours a week since my delivery job cancel'd saturday

so anyways remmber to do heavy weight lifting too and not just cardio i look a heck of a lot better now since doing weight lifting , abb work outs , and etc

i have been on the Atkins diet for about 5 years now

Amen! Thanks for posting. I just broke a 5 week stall also after returning to induction and getting rid of aspertame and all diet drinks. It's only a 2 lb. loss but a huge success for me. What type of workout routine would recommend for a 1st timer?
thanks robby
