Default Ginger - WARNING...

Whoa - yesterday was very weird.

On plan all day, everything's great. Made a fresh ginger/jalapeno mayo to dip some grilled shrimp in for dinner. Tasted great. Two hours later, I was ravenous (I had eaten fine all day, tons of water, etc.) The only thing different was the ginger. So, I had a few pieces of roast beef. Then 2 hours later, still hungry, so I had some nuts...Didn't cheat, but I've never been this hungry on this plan....

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!! I have ginger tea I was going to drink. It's decaf and I use decaf to soothe my stomach sometimes. I am going to avoid this for the next two weeks atleast.

Thanks!!

Ginger does not affect me, but peanuts and many other things do.

Slapshot, sorry you had to find out the hard way on this. It is a definite help to learn what those triggers are though.

I have not noticed ginger having that effect on me either. But I'll pay some attention next time I use it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, it was very weird. In fact, I was bowling with my wife and I was *this* close to suggesting going for ice cream afterwards. That was my first sign something was wrong. Of course, after researching it when I got home, it all made sense...so glad I didn't cheat!

Ginger lowers blood sugar.

Ginger might decrease blood sugar. Diabetes medications are also used to lower blood sugar. Taking ginger along with diabetes medications might cause your blood sugar to go too low. Monitor your blood sugar closely. The dose of your diabetes medication might need to be changed.
So it may have lowered yours to the point where you developed cravings/hunger.

Interesting. I didn't have a low blood sugar type feeling, but it definitely must have lowered it to the craving point. It's so weird to be able to pinpoint *exactly* what caused this. I used a huge amount of ginger, and didn't eat anything else out of my routine. Our bodies are very interesting machines, that's for sure.....

Our bodies certainly are!

I posted a recipe for Cinnamon Tea, because it tastes good. It's naturally sweet. Anyhow, SunnySmile tried it and it gave her terrible cravings. And cinnamon is supposed to lower/stablize blood sugar too.

But take this as a valuable learning experience. You now know that ginger may affect you adversely. So if you do eat it in future, you will be aware of any problems it may cause you.

Ginger doesn't bother me, but boy, cinnamon does. I was really enjoying the cinnamon tea, made with simmered cinnamon sticks. I never feel like eating between meals, but after drinking the tea, I would have more than one snack between meals. I was drinking it mixed with chamomile tea before bedtime, and I was so ravenous I couldn't go to sleep. I have a rule of not eating after 7:00 p.m. After I stopped the cinnamon tea, so did the cravings to eat the whole side of a cow in one sitting. I never had high blood sugar (was always hypoglycemic), so I guess it was dipping my sugar way low.
