Default Do you still try to eat low fat/calorie?

Even though you CAN have butter, mayo, bacon, etc, do you? Common sense just tells me to avoid high calorie foods, no matter what diet I'm on.

It's weird to see all these recipes telling me to fry things in butter. That just doesn't sound right to me.

Default Re: Do you still try to eat low fat/calorie?

well its important to eat lots of fat but i see your point like an egg is 61% fat and right there you already almost got 65% fat the ratio your supos to eat while on the Atkins diet

but not all foods are that high in fat so thats why we add things like butter and stuff to make sure we are geting are 65% fat in are diet

remmber we are a fat burning metabolism and eating fat gives us lots of energy and makes sure are metabolism is running at top speeds so we stay healthy

or if your one of the people who dont know fat is 100% healthy yet then go here

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...concerned.html (Anyone concerned?)

oh and butter is very healthy alot better for you than margin

margin has polyunsaturated omega-6 vegetable oils which cause heart disease

olive oil is good for you too

Low fat?

You have to eat enough fat to keep your body from converting protien to glucose.

Low calorie?

You have to eat enough calories to keep your body from cannibalizing your lean body mass.

Commom sense?

Common sense usually just means going with what you've aways been told. Common sense isn't the best way to approach biology and chemistry... Much better to educate yourself with research.

jpegg, I completely sympathize with what you're going through. I just started and feel like I have to re-train my brain. At the end of the day, the proof is in the sugar-free pudding!

Absolutely not!

From page 127 of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution:

"Butter is allowed. Margarine should be avoided, not because of its carbohydrate content, but because it is usually made of trans fats (hydrogenated oils), which are a serious health hazard ... You need not remove the skin and fat from meat or fowl ... I cannot stress strongly enough that trying to do a low-fat version of Atkins will interfere with fat burning and derail your weight loss."

Thank you, guys. I wasn't aware that this topic had such a stigma around it.

Thank you, ziggy. That link was very helpful.

I guess I'm going to just have to take a leap of faith (because come on, all my life I've been told to avoid butter and cream, etc) and trust in this diet. There are amazing success stories on this site, so that definitely helps me take that leap.

I haven't actually read DANDR. I looked for it in the bookstore today, but it wasn't there. I'll have to find it somewhere; I'm sure it will be an interesting read.

What stigma? We're just stating the facts. High fat is only unhealthy when consumed with refined carbs. Once you read the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, you will understand the science behind it.

Happy low-carbing!

Oh no, I wasn't referring to this thread. I was referring to the thread that was linked to me. It just seemed that people were tired of being asked these kind of questions (I'm sure it does get irritating) and someone said they were 'fighting words'.

Yeah, I really need that book. I was reading a site about it, which was fine until they started saying universities were insitutions of brainwashing and liberals were rebellious children. I got out of that site fast! Lol.

Thank you!

i figured you were referring to the other thread when you said stigma and was thinking of replying and saying i think jpegg0 ment the stigma in the thread i sent xD

but this thread had a little stigma too xD

anyways when it comes to healthy eating universities for dietitian doctors are insitutions of brainwashing

they pressure you saying things like eating high carb is a must and you cant live low carb and such

atleast thats what they have been doing for the past 50 years there was a low carb diet 50 years ago or so and dietitian doctors immediately said that diet book of low carb eating was the equivalent of mass murder

also around 50 years ago a doctor found out how to fix type 2 diabetes ( low carb ) but he was ignored as well

for over 99% of human existence we have ate low carb how did so many doctors go so wrong on something so simple?

anyways for other things besides diet universities can be decent xD

We've all been thoroughly brainwashed into thinking that fat is bad. Very baaaaad!

But it wasn't like that about 60 years ago. It was only after the World Wars that the "lipid theory" gained popularity after Ancel Keys published the 7 Countries Study which showed a direct link between heart disease and fat consumption. Too bad Keys only picked the data that supported the lipid theory. Had he used the data from the remaining 18 countries, we wouldn'thave had the health problems we currently do. See those other 18 countries showed there was no direct correlation between dietary fat and heart disease. So Keys conned the scientific community and for the last 40 years, we've been told that fat is bad and to eat healthy fat-free or low fat foods. Unfortunately, when we switched to that kind of a diet, the incidence of heart disease, diabetes and stroke increased.

I don't fear fat anymore---particularly natural fats like those from vegetables and animal proteins.
