Default Pizza

In the summer time my family has 'pizza sundays' where everyone in the family is invited over for pizza.

I just hate it cause

#1 my family is not supportive and I dont feel like defending my eating the toppings only

#2 pizza every week cant be good, I dont know what kind of cheese meat and sauce they used (probably sugar laden)

#3 I never feel satisfied. I could eat the toppings off every single slice.

I may just have to avoid pizza sundays altogether, unless there is an easy induction pizza out there...I guess ill have to do some research.

Default Re: Pizza

I can relate. My family recently ordered pizza and I sat there and picked the toppings off of two pieces. Most unsatisfying!! And ours was a take and bake from Walmart so I was able to read the ingredients of the meats on the pizza. Most had some form of sugar and fillers--Yikes!! Unfortunately, I read the ingredients AFTER eating the pizza. Oops Anyways, Have you checked out Linda's Low Carb Menus and Recipes? There are some induction friendly pizzas on there that look pretty good. I haven't tried one yet but I intend to. If you decide to try one, let me know how it turns out!! Good luck. p.s Sorry about your unsupporting family. I too, know what that's like. I come from a family full of " One little bite or piece isn't gonna hurt you." AARRGGGG Makes me wanna go postal.LOL

Difficult one.. so many different social pressures, If its every week and you dont want to do it just say no thanks.. I do get my self into situations sometime where im obliged to eat certain things, so I tend to just eat them anyway.. I have the odd weekend off and then just start again, Its no biggy for me as Im not to worried about perfection which is the trap people get cought up in! I allow my self the odd thing like pizza and It helps me stay low carb long term for the most part..

You don't have to cheat in order to eat pizza, nor do you have to live like a hermit or give up your "pizza Sundays". Make a cauliflower pizza or any other "legal" pizza and enjoy your time.

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

You could also take something else that you prepared for yourself... preferably one of your favourite dishes, so you don't get those pangs of envy watching the others eat pizza.
Hang in there... you won't regret it!

Default Re: Pizza

I like the ideas already listed here. I think you should bring your own salad or food with you. If you do not have time to make a pizza, run by the local deli or Subway and get a really nice, large salad. Then take that with you. Eat your salad and maybe one slice of pizza you can take the toppings off of. If your family is not being supportive, it may be because they feel like it is a waste to throw away the crust, or it is unhealthy. If you bring a salad, then they cannot say you are not being healthy. If you bring your own pizza and salad, they cannot say you are wasting their money. I checked out the pizza recipe on Lindas Low Carb Menu and they looked good but it looks like a bunch of work. I think picking up a nice salad would be easier.

Then, why not suggest that one of those days in the month, you do a barbecue. Then you could eat steak and salad!!

Also, give your family some time to accept your new way of life. Once they see how much more healthy and happy you are, they will be more supportive.

Good luck!!

Default Re: Pizza

Make the cauliflower pizza crust....it's worth it!

I make a double batch and form them into 4 smaller crusts (like 6-8 inches each I guess) and put them in the freezer. They are a lot of work, so keeping some on hand frozen is totally the way to go.

Pizza burgers are good, too.

Successfully did Atkins in 1998 using 1992 copy of the book...before it was "hip". Lost 60lbs, exercised daily, felt and looked great. And then I moved in with a junk-food loving man, my mom got sick and passed away, then I suffered a spinal cord injury, and junk-food dude left me...and now I weigh 292lbs. That's 22lbs MORE than I weighed the first time around. It's 10 years later...I know this will work for me again.

Rajenki, that is such a good idea about freezing them, I would have never thought of that. I keep planning on making one and have not done it yet. Your suggestion will really help me, thanks.

It's great, that's how I came to weigh 378 lbs.

But seriously, it's your FAMILY. Raid the frig for some Atkins goodies, or happen to bring over some salad greens and grilled chicken. "Hey guys! I brought over some salad goodies to go with the pizza!".

Now you're contributing to the meal, and eating right. Win/Win.

My family got together for pizza last week and I just took my own. I took extra too in case someone wanted some yummy low-carb stuff! I make mine with a low-carb tortilla-first I fry it with just a bit of butter to make it crisp-then top it with whatever I like- bake it and there you go! They are really great and I don't feel deprived at all.
