You don't. You should stick to natural, un-processed foods, as much as possible.

Since I am in Maintenance, I tried eating them... they awakened the carb-addicted monster in me as much as a piece of cake would have. I've tried on more than one occasion, and, no way. It would be nice to be able to fall back on one in an emergency, but alas, they are not for me. ![]() In answer to your question as to when to have them if you are one of the ones who can tolerate them - look on the ingredients list of the one you want to try. Amongst the zillion chemicals that are listed, try to find some that you recognize... whatever the highest rung is to those, is where you add it. For example, there's usually soy in them. That means no-go until at least Rung 6. It there are any kind of oats in them, that would be Rung 9. As I indicated, I waited until Maintenace, and they still did a number on me. The ingredients will determine when you add it, and it's one of those YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) things as far as tolerance.

Thanks for that better answer, MM. I misinterpreted the question and thought it was an induction-only question.

| I used to keep them on hand for emergency only, now I grab a bottle of water and a cheese stick, and a beef stick.

I would think they would be OK in maintenance... If you are allowed to eat 60 carbs a day and you want to waste 22 of them on an Atkins bar (I count total carbs since my body sure does) then go for it...

Yuck, I think they taste gross. My first time around on atkins I made my own energy or meal bars but that was when I was farther up the rung. There are also Specialty energy bar stores where you can go in and make your own bars all natural and organic fruits, oats and grains. You gather what you you want from the bins they mix it, bake it and voila. Here where I live it is cheaper then buying prepackaged ones. You could also find recipes for low carb bars then go to a store that has a bulk section and grab some stuff. We have winco and whole foods here they both have a great selection of bulk foods and there prices aren't that bad for bulk items.
