Default It's the thought that counts!

so i'm here at work - and all week i've been working on this NASTY project for a project manager here...well - I am making changes to it after her sponsor asked her to make a bunch of changes and all week I feel like i've been doing this...

so anyways - long story short - she has been very happy with how much I've helped her and she just stopped by my desk and gave me some otis spunkmeyer cookies from the cafeteria...they're warm and smell ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh soo good...but I thanked her kindly and after she went back to her desk (other side of building...) I gave all three cookies to three of my co-workers...

course, two of them were new and asked why i didn't want them and I told them, point blank, "I don't eat sugar". both of them were like, "really? wow..." but I left it at that.

so yup. not tempted. (ok, maybe tempted - just know better. hehe).
that's what co-workers are for - right?

Congrats on not eating the cookies! I made my husband 2 batches of chocolate cookies with reeses peanut butter chips and didn't even lick the cookies batter off of my fingers. It is not worth losing everything that we have worked hard for and I think it shows us that this is a charge of life style not just a diet and that we have made that change. Great job your so close to your goal and you look great!

Great choice!! I had a similar situation with a delightful lady in my Tuesday's golf group. She weighs about 105 and her total identity is in baking. Each Tuesday she brings her offerings of coffee cakes packaged in individual bags for each of us. At first I took the cake and then gave it to the girls who work at the clubhouse. Then I decided that wasn't fair to the girls, why would I give them something to eat I know can be so very bad for their health. I finally just said no, that, like you, I was staying off sugar. She just shrugged and said "O.K." And here I was worried that I'd hurt her feelings!

Your cookie story reminded me of this little fable that has always been one of my favorites since childhood. It's from a children's book of short stories called "Frog and Toad Together" by Arnold Lobel. All the Frog and Toad books are excellent and the stories are very cute. I think this story also exemplifies what can happen with trigger foods and cravings.
Cookies
by Arnold Lobel

Toad baked some cookies. "These cookies smell very good," said Toad. He ate one. "And they taste even better," he said. Toad ran to Frog's house. "Frog, Frog," cried Toad, "taste these cookies that I have made."

Frog ate one of the cookies, "These are the best cookies I have ever eaten!" said Frog.

Frog and Toad ate many cookies, one after another. "You know, Toad," said Frog, with his mouth full, "I think we should stop eating. We will soon be sick."

"You are right," said Toad. "Let us eat one last cookie, and then we will stop." Frog and Toad ate one last cookie. There were many cookies left in the bowl.

"Frog," said Toad, "let us eat one very last cookie, and then we will stop." Frog and Toad ate one very last cookie.

"We must stop eating!" cried Toad as he ate another.

"Yes," said Frog, reaching for a cookie, "we need willpower."

"What is willpower?" asked Toad.

"Willpower is trying hard not to do something you really want to do," said Frog.

"You mean like trying hard not to eat all these cookies?" asked Toad.

"Right," said Frog.

Frog put the cookies in a box. "There," he said. "Now we will not eat any more cookies."

"But we can open the box," said Toad.

"That is true," said Frog.

Frog tied some string around the box. "There," he said. "Now we will not eat any more cookies."

"But we can cut the string and open the box." said Toad.

"That is true," said Frog. Frog got a ladder. He put the box up on a high shelf.

"There," said Frog. "Now we will not eat any more cookies."

"But we can climb the ladder and take the box down from the shelf and cut the string and open the box," said Toad.

"That is true," said Frog.

Frog climbed the ladder and took the box down from the shelf. He cut the string and opened the box.

Frog took the box outside. He shouted in a loud voice. "Hey, birds, here are cookies!" Birds came from everywhere. They picked up all the cookies in their beaks and flew away.

"Now we have no more cookies to eat," said Toad sadly. "Not even one."

"Yes," said Frog, "but we have lots and lots of willpower."

"You may keep it all, Frog," said Toad. "I am going home now to bake a cake."

THE END

When I first started this WOE, I cleaned my desk of 'emergency food' & snacks...ramen noodles, granola bars, candy, etc. I gave it all to a co-worker, then felt bad about it thinking I was poisoning her!

My instructor at my night course hands out boxes of smarties as 'prizes'...her waist is the size of my left thigh...I accept them & give them away, its easier than explaining.

...sugar, sugar, its everywhere!

I love this fable. I think my mother had a old book with it in it...

Anyway, when I am with friends and family I make it clear that I am avoiding sugar and watching my blood sugar. Others however are a little taken back when I say this and look mad after wards like I have offended them. So usually I will take them and say I will enjoy them later, then I give them to my boyfriend.

I have no craving for sugar anymore and I was a huge sugarholic. I even go to the store to buy my boyfriend candy and I get excited when I see the broccoli is on sale. Candy? What candy?

I'm "lucky" --- I just tell people I'm diabetic because that's the truth. It helps when the girl scouts come to the door or the Mrs. Andress 3rd grade "for a good cause" kids come to the door or the boy scouts want me to buy pizza and pretzels.....this is the only thing I can say is "good" about being diabetic!

haha. actually - last week I DID buy some chocolates from a neighborhood kid going door to door selling chocolates for something to help keep kids off the street. so I bought some for Dan.

i felt bad for the kid cuz i remember how much that SUCKED going door to door...but as long as i don't touch em' it's all good!

plus - the cookie thing - being that she is a project manager (a.k.a an internal client of mine) - i wasn't going to sit here and tell her, "no thank you for your generocity, i don't eat sugar" - nah - instead I kindly thanked her and gave them away to my other co-workers.

As a temp worker at the tax dept, my time there is coming to an end. So, a notice was posted last week that they would be having an "End of the tax season luncheon" it will be this Friday. It is to thank us for all the hard work we have done for them. The menu is also posted along with the notice. Fried chicken, potato salad, macaroni salad, rolls, and dessert! I guess it really is the thought that counts. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they might actually get some of the KFC grilled chicken, but I'm not counting on it.
