| Metaformin lowers insulin levels which can help reduce hunger and increase fat moblization. This is one of the reasons it is prescribed in PCOS. But don't count on it making much of a difference. If you are taking it for type 2 diabetes, your goal should be losing enough weight where you no longer need it. |

| Thanks for responding. At this time I do not have Type 2 diabetes. I have PCOS, but I know if I do not get the weight off I will have Type 2. I just didn't know if it would prevent me from losing weight. Thanks.

| It will make your weight loss slower but you will still loose. You will just have to work a little harder to get to your goal. I started Atkins January 5 and have lost 33 pounds -- I take glyb/metformin, Cozaar, Niaspan and Lovaza and an additional metformin in the evening. There are times I see others loosing so quickly and effortlessly and wonder why it can't be that easy for me but then I remember the pills I take because I ate my way into the state I'm in and it helps bring me back to my life and I'm thankful for the weight I have lost this far. Good luck - don't give up hope, just hunker down and you'll slowly get to your goal.
