Unhappy Already Grated Cheese aka Kraft shredded cheeses

Someone just told me that the already shredded cheeses may be dusted with flour and hence should not be used. Is this true?? Am I now going to have to grate my own cheeses?? If so, anyone have a good link to a auto cheese grater. I've tried those hand held things and that's too much work for such little results.

Yes, they usually contain starch or flour to keep them from sticking together. If you don't want a standard grater, you could try this:

I don't like grating cheese, so I use a cheese slicer and cut thin slices... They melt the same... and it's a lot easier to clean...

Yes, it's true... all you have to do, is check the ingredients.

Oh my, I had no idea either - wow good thing you posted this up! I love cheese and the grated kind is so simple for putting on top of food - I will start paying attention to the ingredients as well - thank you so much for alerting me

Speaking of cheese, I treated myself this weekend to extra aged Gouda Cheese. Rembrandt. It was out of this world. A bit pricey, but such a wonderful, nutty texture and flavor, it's indescribable.

Later,
Norman
