Default Complications perhaps

Hi, short and sweet on this one. I've read the induction phase foods. I've attempted to eat them. The reason I say attempt is because I'm currently in Baghdad Iraq serving here. I've set some realistic goals for weight loss and general body toning.

I'm not sure how they prepare the food, nor can I shop for my own. So, through anyone elses experience, what are some safe foods for me to induct with, knowing I have no real way to carb check.

I've highly motivated, my work out does consist of about 6-7 miles a day and a load of lifting, and also an good abs and back workout. Obviously this is not a board on working out so lets get back to the discussion.

Morning, I eat scrambled eggs (not sure if they are real or powdered, i'm in the military so could be powdered) 2 sausage patties, and 1 bacon strip.

Lunch- 2 hamburger patties, 1 slice of cheese, olives, and mushrooms.

Dinner- 2 hamburger patties, 1 slice of cheese, olives and mushrooms

I don't know what the hamburger patties are made out of, it might even be soy. So you see where some of my fears for getting a good inductions sit. If anyone can think of a way to adapt and overcome this obstacle, please give input.

Thank you for any thoughts and input you give.

Hi there and welcome! Kudos to you for taking control of your eating in such difficult circumstances.

Try to eat foods you imagine have not been processed in any way, or interfered with by man (other than simply cooking). Sausages and hamburgers have been so are risky. Sausages contain all sorts of carby ingredients, usually... unless they are the meat only Italian sausages.

You should be ok with things like chops, steak etc. Simply prepared veggies (from the induction list) should be ok too. Avoid salad dressings unless you can add your own basic oil and vinegar.

If I were you (and if it's possible) I'd have a word with one of the cooks or someone responsible for supplies. They should know, or at least have the packaging, which probably gives the nutritional values and ingredients list. They should also know if the eggs are powdered (afraid I'm not sure if these are ok or not, as I've never eaten them and they're not generally available where I am).

Stay safe out there!

Since you don't really have the options that most of us have your version of the diet is going to be more about what you don't eat than what you could.

Just stay away from bread, fruit, milk, pasta, corn, foods high in starch/sugar etc... You will lose by watching what you eat in this manner until you can get to a place where you have more control over your daily menu...

p.s. THANKS for being where you are and doing what you do!

If you are military, then you are probably safe eating at the mess. I know soldiers who have served in Iraq and elsewhere: from what they tell me of the mess hall food, Atkins isn't a problem.

I agree, eat as close to plan as you can, and try to at least get in a salad any time you can with oil/vinegar or oil/lemon juice. Your listed diet looks O.K. but not enough veggies and olives at 2 meals a day may not be a good thing. Good luck and God bless you!!
