| Yes, you ate more than you should have but it probably will be fine. Your carb count once you subtract the fiber should be very close to your allowed 20 and I don't think it is going to cause any problems. Just continue on from here wiser. |

| 20 grams of carbs is a completely arbitrary number that Dr A came up with. It's a number to shoot for not something to want to shoot yourself over if you miss the mark. If you would have pigged out on a gallon of ice cream however....

Something about eating the whole bag. Remember we are supposed to eat only enough to satisfy our hunger. We cannot eat a whole plate of chicken or a whole stick of butter just because they have zero carbs or because we still have some left on our plate or because we haven't reached our carb limit for the day or because we still have some room left in the stomach. Eat a little at a time. If that "little" satisfies your hunger, then stop eating and leave the rest for later. If you are still hungry after eating that "little", then eat a little more... and so on until your hunger is satisfied without you feeling full/stuffed.

I believe that the best way to overcome temptation is not with willpower, which is so often in short supply, but with our brain power, a potentially unlimited resource. Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | And also remember that vegetables are limited during Induction Phase. I know that Atkins.com has changed the rules, stating that you need to eat 12-15 net carbs of veggies every day and you can pick whatever veggie from either lists. There are inherently BAD things with that. Namely, 1. some of the vegetables have a higher glycemic index, so if you choose to eat 15 net carbs of tomatoes or onions, you might screw up your blood sugar---which impacts on your insulin secretion which affects your weight loss 2. you learn nothing about normal portion sizes and portion control. Many of us are fat because we overeat and have no concept of what is a "normal" portion size. Broccoli, according to the 2002 book (which is what we follow here on ADBB), is an "other vegetable" and is limited to 1 cup daily. Vegetables are allotted in 2 ways: either 3 cups from the "salad" list or 2 cups from the "salad" list and 1 cup from the "other list".

| Always check your carbs and plan out meals before so you can count your daily amount. You should be fine at least you had a vegetable and not a biscuit or something like bread that would have been bad.Just keep going.

| Here's what I try to do. I eat one serving of everything and wait 20-30 minutes. That gives me enough time to let the brain register whether or not I am still physically hungry. Then I go for a little more IF I still feel hungry. Most of the time I am not hungry--I just needed the 20 minutes to know that. |

| And...it's not like you had a huge loaf of crusty itallian bread...it was broccoli! You can always scale back the following day, but like everyone said...it's not a big deal. I think (if I remember correctly) cauliflower is lower in carbs. I never used to like it, but years ago when I first started Atkins, I used to make it with butter, garlic, salt, pepper and a little Adobo (they spanish seasoning) and it was sooo sooo good! |
