Smile A Second time atkins dieter

hey guys,

I've been checking this site for a while as it motivates me, so i'm about to start the atkins way of life tomorrow (as i finally did the shopping today).

I have done this was of eating before with great success, i think i lost about 11 lbs on induction, but i fell off the wagon, that damn wagon.

So here's a little about me, I've been overweight most my life, in fact i think i was born heavy. Last year, in may, i began a diet and exercise program and for the first time in my life i shrunk from 190 lbs to 145 lbs, i felt great. I then ordered a low carb food delivery system, based in the uk. In the one week i was on that diet, i dropped 10 lbs. I should have been excited, but i was more concerned, after examining the nutrition labels i calculated that i was only getting 800kcal a day from this so called healthy plan!!! God was i annoyed, and boy did i enjoy expressing this to them, so anyway long story cut a little shorter, i since then, have put weight back on and am now at 177 lbs with an aim to get down to 120 lbs, I'm hoping the inspiration and everyone on this site well help keep me going, and i will post updates as to how well i have done, as i dont plan to quit

Hello Alpzz, welcome to ADBB. As you have already seen, this is a friendly and informative board. As Julie suggested it is a great help to read the book first. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We are here to help.

if you were eating 800 cal a day and went straight to atkins, you shouldn't have put on any weight. your metabolism picks up right away if you eat more food, there is no such thing as a rebound effect when you eat less calories and then start eating more. the only way you put on weight like that if you eat excessively and lots of "bad" food.

at least you've come to senses i've been on induction so many times before i got it right and my tastes changed. i never ate meats before atkins, so it was terrible for me to adjust my diet.

Hi and welcome -- stay away from the shakes and bars (they are NOT legal on induction) - eat a variety of foods, get your fats, carbs and protein in daily, drink plenty of pure water (nothing added), take your supplements and exercise...it's really that easy. Read the 2002 DANDR book so you know what you’re doing.
Check the stickies (information posts) at the top of this page http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/

Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water each day, including:
Filtered water
Mineral water
Spring water
Tap water

Crystal Lite, sugar free teas, sodas, latte’s, smoothies – don’t count – PURE water is the only thing that counts toward your daily water intake. Now is the time to make changes – stop using these products. If you need a “flavor” in your water float a lemon or lime slice on top of your water

Check the recipe sites also - they are very helpful and will help make your meals so much more enjoyable.

Talking Re: A Second time atkins dieter

Wow! Thank you everyone for replying

I actually love this way of eating as it leaves me with more energy

I have read the book, twice over i think, even have my boyfriend in eating low carb for health as he doesn’t need to lose an ounce of weight (lucky so and so)

Stephanee, sure we can do this together, keep each other motivated

I weighed myself at the gym yesterday and it had me at 171lbs, but i don’t think it's very accurate as it also measured me at 6'7" and I’m only 5'4", but hey it was nice seeing declining numbers on the scale

I last weighed myself while on holiday, when i finally decided that enough was enough, so having learnt how to swim whilst out in Florida I now have fallen in love with it

Currently, as well as sticking to Atkins, i am also swimming about 4 times a week and am in the pool for at least 80mins (obviously not constantly swimming), but i can feel myself shaping up

As for water? I drink heaps; have a water cooler at work so it's never been a problem. This time I'm not trying to lose weight for a special occasion, I'm simply doing it for health reasons and to well fit into those sexier clothes again.

So how is everyone else getting on? I find this site and sugarfreesheila's site helps me stay motivated.

Alpzz x

Good for you reading the book -- it makes the whole process much easier to follow when you know what you're doing. You're luck your boyfriend is willing to eat the same foods are you (wish that would happen in my home..lol) and drinking enough water.

Check all the recipe sites for wonderful recipe ideas. We're having the typical bbq foods today (hamburgers & hot dogs) and for the first time I'm having "potato" salad (made with cauliflower instead of potatoes) - can't wait!!

If you have questions or need help all you have to do is ask!!
