| Hmmm You did not really read the book I think. Here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?) (What are the Rules of Induction?) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) (What foods can be eaten on Induction?) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...lent-tips.html (A "MUST READ" for Newbies... 40 excellent tips!) (A "MUST READ" for Newbies... 40 excellent tips!) I cannot really answer your questions. You provide very little info. What weight are you at? What do you want to weight? How tall are you? When does the basket ball season start? I think your muscles will be fine. Atkins bars are to be avoided Diet coke contains aspartame - a sweetener that is to be avoided. Hope that helps.

| I really appreciate the response, I have no idea why they make bars if they are suppose to be avoided though. I'll be sure to read what you sent me and I'll ask questions if needed. most of the stuff I looked at there I had read earlier, I'm just making sure that I'm counting right. Because the bars I bought have 22 grams of carbs but 2 grams of net carbs does that mean I could have like 170 grams of carbs as long as its under 20 net carbs? |

| Well that is a bit complicated about the bars. The company that makes them and who has the right to use the Atkins name is a commercial company trying to survive on products (sexy products according to their website) But we have found that many stall with those bars so they are best avoided till after induction. remember 20 carbs but most of them from veggies.

| Use the anabolic and / or metabolic diet by Dr. Mauro Di Pasquale. You are an athlete and so am I. Google it. You will gain muscle while losing fat at an accelerated rate. I use the Anabolic diet and the anabolic solution exclusively. You'll never gain muscle, in fact, you will lose lean mass after a few weeks on ketosis.

| What is your source for the info about losing lean mass on ketosis Norman? Are you saying this would happen if you exercised? |

| You'll never gain muscle, in fact, you will lose lean mass after a few weeks on ketosis. What I meant is that if you calorie restrict, for every pound of weight loss, 10% is muscle and 90% is fat. If a person trains intensely, a carefully planned CKD can actually cause a small, gradual increase in Lean body mass and also a small, gradual loss of fat. The average weight trainer needs 200-300 calories more than that burned by BMR plus activity. Remember, Atkins worked mostly with individuals who were obese and needed to shed many pounds. Does this apply to and average lifter that is squatting 1.5-2.0 times his / her body weight? Atkins is the way to go for individuals wanting to lose fat, gain a little bit of muscle and control fat deposition their entire live. Many have remarked here that they were happy to walk up a flight of stairs, etc. I applaud them. But the Atkins diet won't work for competitive or elite athletes trying to gain upwards of 50 lb of muscle. In my opinion, and from what I've read so far, it's far better to reach a low body fat percentage then increase calories until the individual is maximizing lean tissue gains while minimizing fat accumulation. Unfortunately, the magic number appears to be about 10% body fat in males. Something else that is over looked. Insulin among the low carb dieters is considered an enemy, of sorts. Yet insulin is very, very anabolic used in the proper way from time to time. I'll be honest, I'm here at this forum to gain an edge on the low carb cycles that I do 5-6 days per week. What I've learned here is of great value. For all out there that are not even close to reaching your "ideal" weights, stick with the Atkins plan. It works far better than any other diet out there.
