| We don't know what your resistance is? How much weight did you lose during your 2 week induction? How long did it take you to lose the 50 lbs? |

| Welcome to the board, it's great to meet you!!!! It all depends on the individual, their activity etc....so I can't really answer that question for you....however, I will say this, if you stick to the program, eat exactly what you're suppose to, drink lots of water and make sure you fit some form of exercise into your weekly routine whether it be walking, hand weights, swimming etc....you will lose weight....take it day to day...small baby steps....those baby steps add up and will take you to where you want to be Looking forward to hearing how things are going for you. Keep in touch! Sarina ----------------------- Heaviest weight - 403 lbs. (2007) April 1, 2008 - 387 lbs. | Hi! I started on weight watchers June 2008 & lost approx 45 lbs in 1 year. It has been really slow & I plateaued for 4 months this year. I started Atkins on June 25th & lost 6.2 lbs during induction & lost nothing on extended induction instead put on 2 lbs. I lost the 1 extra lb yesterday. So I am now at 225.3 lbs as of this morning Yesterday I started rung 1 OWL since I seemed to reach status quo on Induction. I am just wondering what is realistic goal for me time wise if I want to lose 80-90 lbs more. Hope this answers your question. Thanks |

| Based upon your weight loss rate while on weight watchers and while on induction - I would estimate .86 lb per week, (probably not spaced out evenly) which would put your loss at about a year and 3/4 from now... so sometime early 2012... Your loss on Atkins could be faster than on weight watchers depending on how closely you follow all of the rules etc... Do you take medication for thyroid? diabetes? multivitamins? All of these can affect the outcome as can daily exercise... |

| First of all, you lost weight on Induction despite not posting any menus for review by people who know the plan inside and out. During part of the time, you ate 1/4 cup of cream (from a prior post) which is a far cry from the limited amount allowed and spelled out in DANDR 2002: "Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)". It is unfortunate to jump to conclusions using terms like "metabolism resistance". Truthfully, no one can predict your weight loss and it is hard to help you troubleshoot without specific dietary information.

| Irish is right. 1/4 cup of cream would be allowed during Induction as part of the "Special Category Foods", but those are foods that may stall or slow down your weight loss. But you didn't even have cream, but half and half, which is not allowed at all during Induction (half of it is milk). Unless you have a clean Induction, the metabolic resistance charts become pretty useless. In any case, no one can tell you how long it will take to lose X lbs out of Y. It depends not only on your metabolic resistance, but also on your exercise, adherence to the diet, food intolerances you'll discover along the way, weight you have left to lose, etc. No two people are the same and even if we would now all these factors, there is no formula to predict how your weight loss rate will evolve in time. What I'm sure about is that you'll be smaller by the end of the year. Take body measurements too, to confirm fat loss when the number on the scale stays the same. Happy OWLing!

| Hello! Don't despair - you've done really well with your weight loss so far. Just read the book and perhaps log what you're eating on an online tool - do this HONESTLY or there's just no point! You may find some areas are higher in carbs than you realise. I don't think your goals look unrealistic, and with exercise, you will definitely see a big improvement in shape and overall health by December. Drink loads of water, take your supplements, and perhaps try eating off a smaller plate? (I saw something one which demonstrated the power of sight on how much we eat - basically, if we were blind folded, we would eat much slower, enjoy our food more and listen to our bodies 'full cues'). But I digress.... Congrats on your efforts so far, you should be proud of yourself, clearly you have changed your habits drastically and importantly, are now committed to changing your health and shape for the better. Best of luck!

| Ok: So now I am freaking out. I honestly didn't think twice about using half & half instead of the cream just 'coz I had it in the fridge. So if my induction was kaput because of it...should I backtrack & restart induction tomorrow with the 20 net carbs & cream this time??? THANKS!!!! |

| No, just keep at it, best you can. You can't redo-induction & find out your metabolic resistance now, because you've already been eating low-carb - it just doesn't work that way. However, you can't assume that you are highly metabolically resistant, since you didn't have a clean induction. Try staying away from the foods that are allowed, but do stall some people - extra cream (over & above the 3tbsp allowed), avacado, olives, etc., avoid frankenfoods, drink your water plain & see what happens. Best Wishes with the remainder of your journey,
