| Gluconeogenesis - Glucose Metabolism from Fats, Proteins Sorry about stopping in the middle of posting, but I got a phone call. I would suggest to eat when you are hungry. I would eat something about 60+% fat and less than 2-3 grams of carbohydrate. The hunger will pass. Your metabolism has to get used to the change. Dieting, in itself, is very stressful on our organisms. I believe that before going into a caloric deficit, replace your carbohydrate grams that you previously were eating with fat grams. Then, after your body get's used to burning fat, slowly start lowering your calories until you are burning fat and maintaining muscle.

| Thanks Normal. Very helpful. Can I ask how long it takes for your body to get use to burning fat? I've been doing Akins since January. And then before that about 8 months last year.

| Everybody's metabolism is different. I started feeling great in about 8-9 days. Yes, you'll be in ketosis possibly within 2-3 days, depending on glycogen stores, but for me it took about 8 days to really start seeing and feeling a difference.

| Try this, or here is what I did. Watch portion size. Weight Watchers and Nutrisystems make a living this way. You can do it for free. By the way, there ain't no free lunch. Cut the carbs down very low- say 10 per day. Eat 6 to 8 meals 185 to 200 high protein meals a day, meat, chicken, turkey, lean pork, tuna, salmon, eggs, hard cheese . Those items have around 6 gm of protein per oz. When I was 18 yrs old I weighed 185lbs. Maybe 10% of that was fat. So lean body mass was 165lbs. 165 X .6 = 99gm of protein needed per day. Get enough so muscles don't get lost with the fat. Cut out the oil and fats. You get enough with the protein meal. You want to get your insulin low and keep it there. That is the secret to the Atken diet. Calorie control is next. But if the insulin is low then you can up the calories up a little. Then, like the Dr says increase the carbs 5 gm per week. By eating more often you are putting in more food before you feel hunger. Keeps the metabolism rate up high. Getting hungry is going to slow it down. I may eat a little more in the morning and a little less in the afternoon so then the calorie count evens up. This calorie restriction is not my own idea. I picked it up from Dr Oz. He says you will live longer. I'm down 10.5 lb in 8 days and not hungry. I have found a diet pepsi in between meals is a help. Another thing. At the worst "It's only 2 hours till meal time". Good luck comes to those who try

| What about having breakfast an hour later? I found that if I ate immediately after getting up, there was too much time to lunch, but if I ate a little later, it all fit perfectly. |

I know cream on induction is a legal food but after experimenting for a few months on the AD, I've noticed that cream has a tendency to stall my fat loss. I know it should not, but so does bacon and eggs as a combo. With me, poached eggs seem to do best. I always make my meals a bit more fatty by using fish oil, EFA, flax and CLA. Again, I seem to do best by using fish oil and eating red salmon for lunch. Your best bet is to stay with what's outlined in DANDR. Do exactly what the book recommends and do not consider doing your own "Frankensteinian" version of the diet that probably won't work. Listen to what the moderators say they know their stuff.
