| It's definitely less restrictive than Atkins. I think Mark Sisson is on to some good ideas.

| It is a different diet than this one. I hope it will work for you. I think there are many paleo support groups on line so you may try to find one there. I understand needing support. I want to read that book too.

To me, it is more restrictive as I will be cutting out dairy, legumes (no more peanut butter ), grains............With Atkins, eventually you would add all that stuff back in at some point. |

| The upside of that is you don't have to give up what Sisson calls "sensible vices" - dark chocolate, wine, fruit, etc (he even makes some allowances for dairy). They're permitted on Primal from the outset, whereas you have to wait for them on Atkins.

That is true. I don't like dark chocolate, so that isn't an issue. I will partake in wine and fruit (sensible servings). It is kind of like a high fat south beach diet. |

| Have you purchased the book yet for Primal Blueprint Philosophies? Personally, I feel Atkins is on the right path for my body, but some things I'm having to tweek more and more and I see others are not having to do the same. So that is why I keep looking for the "perfect" combination that will make me healthy, full of energy (which I really don't have) and burn fat, lots of Fat!!! The Paleo Diet seems more "natural" and the Marks Daily Apple (seemed more commercialized), just my view point. I couldn't really find how much fat they are eating. I did like that Paleo Diet can be used during pregnacy and breastfeeding as far as I understand... Definatly something to look into. |

| Reviving an old thread here. I've ordered Primal Blueprint and will report back after I've read it. What turned me onto it was that Mark Sisson welcomes/embraces Atkineers who feel "restricted" on Atkins and want to shake things up a bit. (I don't feel restricted at all, but it intrigued me that he embraced Atkineers and Atkins' principles). There is a substantial amount of overlap/agreement between Atkins' principles and Sisson's. I'm curious to see what the key differences are. One of the key differences is that Sisson allows/encourages the 80/20 rule, meaning that if you're 80% on all the time, you're doing OK ("Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.") While that's an interesting concept, it seems to me that Atkins Maintenance (with all of the things allowed on the 9 Rungs) is very much the same. So, I expect to see a lot of overlap. I'm still doing Atkins (and still at 187), but the Primal Blueprint seems like an interesting read. I'll report back...

| It think we are seeing a bit of this. Diet plans coming out and saying "this is not the Atkins diet because you can eat grain or fruit or whatever" and it turns out they don't know that the Atkins plan is more than induction. Duh. I hope to read the Primal Blueprint one day though. Is he anti dairy and pro fasting?

| Sisson really gets the entire Atkins approach and it's obvious he holds it in high regard. I'm curious to see where/how he parts company with Atkins' principles given the substantial conceptual overlap. Dairy isn't "restricted" but falls into the "occasional indulgence" category. For him, it's a YMMV thing. He supports limited intermittent fasting to break plateaus, but not as an overall weight loss/health strategy. He also does not subscribe to the "conventional wisdom (CW)" of eating 6 small meals a day. So, he probably would quarrel with the Atkins Don't-Go-6-Hours-Without-Eating rule. Sisson says eat when you're hungry (which is what Atkins says, too).
