Default Atkins Products, during Induction?

Can we have the Atkins bars and shakes during Induction? On the package it says all phases including phase one, which is what induction is called...Phase one.

Thanks.

The bars and shakes are not allowed on induction - they have non-induction ingredients in them.

Like what? I thought we were concerned about Carbs, why do the "ingredients" matter?

Atkins.com lists Atkins products in a sample meal plan for induction..

Two Week Meal Plan

You are suppose to be eating foods on the acceptable food list only -- the bars and shakes have ingredients that are not on that list -- many people experience slow or no weight loss when they use the bars and shakes. Atkins.com is in the business of making money - NOT in making us healthy.

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Atkins.com is a commercial website whose main focus is to sell its products. Their diet plan loosely resembles Dr. Atkins diet with little regard for his recommendations that these products could result in stalls or poor weight loss results (especially during Induction).

For the Atkins company the diet "failure" produced by their products actually results in more sales and business for them as the longer you take to lose weight or stall in your weight loss, the more $$ they make as customers continue buying the bars and shakes hoping to lose weight.

Have you read DANDR 2002? It explains the latest version of the Atkins diet as Dr. Atkins wrote it for optimum weight loss and health.

From the rules of induction in DANDR
Quote:
4. Eat absolutely no fruit, bread, pasta, grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter. Do not eat nuts or seeds in the first two weeks. Foods that combine protein and carbohydrates, such as chickpeas, kidney beans and other legumes, are not permitted at this time.
5. Eat nothing that is not on the acceptable foods list. And that means absolutely nothing! Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of failure during this phase of Atkins.
So if the low-carb products contain any of the ingredients mentioned in rule 4 they are not allowed on induction, and should be kept till the level/rung of the second phase of Atkins when you can experiment with adding the various food 'groups' in the order given in the OWL chapter while discovering how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight.
