Default When Can You Have Whey Protein?

Recently this post suggested that whey protein is like any other lean meat protein and therefore allowed during Induction. That is not my understanding and so rather than further hijack the original thread, I thought I'd pose the question on its own:

In what phase is whey protein allowed?

I thought it was not until the dairy rung and I waited until that rung to have it.

Yes dairy rung
But if its the isolate thing - then you can have it in induction. But it is not the best. Better to work on whole foods and get into normal meals. Build your foundation in induction.

this is one of those things that could be argued forever. Personally- i stay away from it. it is a frankenfood, in my opinion- it is processed from something else- like corn products and soy products.
if you are looking for a protein for a shake try eggbeaters. i understand that they have been pasturized so that there is no bacteria.
that is if you don't have a problem eating raw eggs.

The only caution I would add here is that there is no fat in Eggbeaters. Also, I don't think anyone should ever be in the position of looking to add protein while on Atkins. To the contrary, I find myself often trying to find a way to up my fat intake without additional protein.

I found whey powder on one type of pork rinds I was eating. I think it threw me out of ketosis. Kind of frustrating, why would they need to add whey to pork rinds??

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Huh? All the eggbeaters products I have seen are fat free, unfortunately. Am I missing something?

Edit: never mind, I understood what you were saying (whole eggs v. egg whites). But, let me clarify. Egg Beaters' "Whole Egg" version is a little misleading since there's no fat in there. A real egg has 5g of fat. So, Egg Beaters (original) is not a good whole egg replacement.

Actually, plain whey protein powder is not a frankenfood and does not contain corn or soy.
Whey protein is a pure, natural, high quality protein from cow's milk. Milk has two proteins: Casein (approximately 80%) and Whey Protein (approximately 20%).

Whey protein is a high quality, complete protein, with all the essential amino acids and is also the richest known source of naturally occurring branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine).

Unfortunately some companies have used whey protein as an ingredient for their frankenfoods by adding artificial flavorings and sweeteners and other ingredients.

Per my doctor's recommendation, I use ImmunoPro Rx Non-Denatured Whey Protein Powder. Ingredients: Whey Protein Concentrate...nothing else!

But the question here was not whether one should have whey protein or substitute eggs...for those like me who should have some whey protein in their diet or for those who want to, the question is: On what phase can we have it?

I didn't mean to hijack your thread with the eggs back and forth, but i thought that Liv had already answered your question....my apologies.
