According to Dr. Atkins, staying on Induction indefinitely is how one should not do Atkins. From DANDR 2002, Chapter 17, "The Wrong Way to Do Atkins":
Quote:
Misconception: You can just continue to do Induction until you lose all of your weight.
Reality: You will lose weight more quickly if you continue doing Induction, but you won't learn how to keep that weight off permanently if you don't move through the four phases. More important, you will miss out on the benefits of the phytochemicals present in health-promoting carbohydrate foods.
An extended Induction can help those who have a high metabolic resistance (determined using the charts in Chapter 13 of DANDR 2002, assuming they have done a correct Induction, i.e. eating nothing that is not on the Acceptable Foods List for Induction, eating three cups of vegetables daily, etc.) correct their metabolic imbalances. Those who have a lot of weight to lose may also prefer to extend their Induction for a while.

For the others is more appropriate if they move to OWL. And, as Dr. Atkins explained in DANDR, one should not do Induction from the beginning until goal.

You seem to be losing very fast Erick, given that you started not long ago. Good for you!

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

What I learned about heartburn or acid reflex, that antacid is alkaline and what your stomach needs is acidity. Try taking cedar vinager and you will be surprised how well it works. Buy taking an antacid your stomach will produce more harsh acid.

I don't know if 5-HTP helps with diet, it does make you feel better for about a week of taking. After a week it loses it effect for me.
Another strong effect it has is it will make you have a lot of dreams and they will be very colorful.
5-HTP transports the serotonin in the cells of the brain, giving a euphoric feeling. Can be bought over the counter in any health store, just be sure to buy it plan, they like to combine with valerium (for sleep) which drugs me out till noon the next day.

I swear by Prelief (from the Beano folks). It takes the acid out of food and is the best known acid fighter for food acids.

Quote:
Acid blockers (such as Tagamet, Zantac, Pepsid, Prilosec, Nexium, etc.) shut down your stomach's acid. But stomach acid is essential to both your digestion and your body's defense mechanism against bacteria; stomach acid is actually a first stop in the body’s germ-defense system. When your stomach’s acid is shut down, ingested bacteria may survive in the stomach and then work their way back up your esophagus and into your lungs or down into the intestinal tract or kidneys. Prelief is the only acid fighter that takes out food acid while leaving your protective stomach acid untouched.
Prelief is available online or at local pharmacies such as Walgreens. It comes in tablets, powder (that you sprinkle on food) and in little pocket powder squeeze bottles. Well worth checking out.

According to my GI. Heartburn in those under 50 is often too much stomach acid and those over 50 too little (assuming no meds were taken that affected stomach acid). As we age our stomach acid decreases.
