| What is your motivation for staying on induction? If you think you will continue to lose rapidly, it isn't going to happen. In fact, many find that their weight loss stalls out after the second or third week and it takes moving on to OWL to kick start the losing process again. Even if your weight loss doesn't stall (mine hasn't) you will taper off to losing a couple of pounds per week. Valid reasons for staying on extended induction are along the lines of having a lot of weight to lose (that's me) or being metabolically resistant. Neither of these factors describe your case. You've lost quite rapidly so far (not metabolically resistant) and at 186 lbs you don't have much weight to lose.

| I think days 4-6 are the hardest. Your body is going to try to make you eat carbs. If you resist, you will be fine in a day or two. If you do not resist, you will fail the diet. Every time I have failed a restart was days 4-6. Back to the extended induction comment. I originally stayed on the induction level of Atkins for nearly a year and continued to lose without any stalls or without feeling like I was going without. As I got closer to my goal, it did slow but that is natural. The only things I added that were not induction friendly were the low-carb tortillas and black soy beans but never exceeded 20 grams a day. Here is why I think that it was not smart to stay on it for so long. I did not learn how to eat anything other than induction. I had no "training" for once I got to my goal weight. You may choose not to eat foods along the rungs, but you need to know how to. You need to know your carb limits. Going up the rungs allows you to test your body's reaction in a relatively controlled manner, so that once you hit your goal, you have the knowledge to succeed. My plan this time is to stay on induction for a while but switch to the rungs as I approach the midway path, hit a stall, or start to feel deprived. |

| I have been on induction since mid Feb.No stalls, love eating this way and feel great. Not for most people but it has made it very easy for me. This time I made my mind up that I wasn't going to get close to my normal weight but never achieve it. Eating like this made my dream a reality. |

| In place of rice you can cook cauliflower and "rice" it using a potato ricer (potato_ricer : Target Search Results) -- then you can add other legal ingredients and make your own sushi when you can't stand being away from it the next time. Drink water today and eat normally....get back on plan tomorrow. As far as staying on induction too long it keeps you from learning to add foods back into your daily meals. I was on Rungs 1 and 2 for several months learning which vegetables and dairy worked with my system and which ones didn't. I learned alot about foods during that time -- Rung 3 almost did me in because I learned peanuts are not friends of mine - but I can eat sunflower seeds without any problems. I occasionally have almonds and walnuts but not often as they cause me small problems. If I had stayed on induction I would have missed this learning process.

| One thing I did at days 4-6 was just eat more than I normally would. I also think 5-HTP helps as it replaces some of the serotonin that your body may be low on for a bit when you first start out. You just need to suck it up for a few days and then that craving will be gone. |

| Thank you so much for the quick reply, i think the main reason why i stopped ( and probably will again) is because of stomach acid. I have hardcore stomach acid and since i'm on atkins it's gotten way worse i don't know why and i've been taking anti acids and i started to have chest pains and was really really nauseous. But thank you so much again!

| Ohh. Glad you mentioned that. I had forgotten about heartburn. This was the first time I did and it is possible it was around that same time. I have a hiatal hernia and reflux but rarely get actual heartburn. I did this time for several days that did not seem to respond well to antacids so I took some Aciphex (prescription). It was a horrible heartburn. You might have some luck with the Pepcid/antacid combo. Mine was gone after a few days. |
