Default Gallbladder/IBS "cured" on Atkins

I have skimmed some older posts, but I was curious how many others were in the same boat.

My original run with Atkins had a loss of 50 pounds. Loved it and never left induction even at the year mark. I liked what I ate and never felt without. After about a year I begin to have nausea and vomiting daily and regrettably it took them a year to figure out my gallbladder was not functioning. Diet went to heck and you ate as much as you could any time you could keep it down. So out that evil gallbladder came.

For those without a gb, you know what happens next. Almost anything you eat ESPECIALLY fats causes a quick visit, revisit, and visit again to the facilities. For those not aware, you can eat a few bites and immediately need a visit. After 3-4 years it is somewhat better but still hit and miss.

Ok, to now. The first few days back on Atkins were interesting, but after that it seems to me that in the last two weeks it has virtually cleared up completely.

It is incredibly odd to me that eating a high fat diet does not cause gallbladder-less people to die but instead seems to actually cure the problem for the most part. It may be that the potential constipating nature of the diet (if you do not eat all your veggies) could be balancing things out.

So I guess the question is how many have noticed a similar "cure" or possibly had a negative reaction to it.

Default Re: Gallbladder/IBS "cured" on Atkins

Hello....I have experienced the exact same thing. I had my gallbladder out 24 years ago and lived for 20+ years with the symptoms you describe. I knew where every public washroom was in my city. It was really life limiting, but I learned to live with it, because nothing I had tried had worked.

THEN...I went on Atkins and literally within the 1st week of being on induction, I was "cured".

Needless to say I was shocked and thankful that by trying to lose my excess weight I had stumbled across a solution for what I considered a much bigger problem.

Fast forward through the years. While on Atkins, no matter what rung, my IBS symptoms were non existant. A great motivation to stay on plan, but in the last while lifes circumstances have caused me to backslide a bit and with my going off plan, the symptoms returned, not to the degree I had before, but still, they did return.

I have reached goal previously, but now I'm back on plan to lose the weight I regained. I look forward to feeling "normal" again, well better than normal actually.

As I have always told everyone (especially those with IBS will understand this), for me weight loss, although the focus of Atkins for most, is a bonus for me, the real blessing is not to have to live life around a most limiting condition.

So, I have returned and I'm not lookin back!

I can't comment personally on the gallbladder, but my IBS always goes with Atkins. Another reason I love this way of life.

I have been meaning to ask for a while now about the gallbladder problem and doing Atkins. My fiance has had gall bladder trouble for a few years, but has yet to get it removed. He wants to try Atkins with me as he's desperate to lose 100 lbs, so maybe he could give it a go and see how it goes for him. I just don't want him to have an attack because of it.

If you can avoid losing your gallbladder that is best. It has been a nightmare without it. Yes, I think I may have had no choice, but still. I know some who do not have any issues but I know more who have. Doctors tell you that it will come out and you will be back to eating anything you want. Do not believe the hype. It is not a useless organ. Ok, that is my sermon for the day.

Default Re: Gallbladder/IBS "cured" on Atkins

i used to suffer from horrible stomach illnesses i used to not beable to eat a single bite of broccoli or greasy fatning meat with out geting horrible gas for many hours afterwards

i also could not run at all cause if i did i would have to crap also with in 10-20 mins of just walking id need to go to the bathroom aswell

at some points when it was the worst i would have diarrhea everyday

when ever i ate food my gut hurt very bad and got bad gas i could not go around anyone for i had gas 24/7 and my stomach could bearly absorb food so i had to eat and eat i was always hungry my life was completely ruined

then after going on Atkins 6 months into the diet all of my gut illnesses were cured this way of eating has saved my life

it took awhile to repair my stomach it was very damaged at the start of the diet when i ate food it still hurt my gut but it got better and better everyday but alot of things i noticed right away like haveing next to no gas

i can now eat giant bowl fulls of broccoli and greasy fatning meat and get no gas at all and no stomach pain or problems at all

i can now eat giant meals of food and then go running with no problems what so ever

i can now do everything i thought would be 100% impossible for me with a stomach like mine to do

i have also learned a few more things about my stomach that il share here

these food items irritate my stomach so i avoid them to keep my stomach forever 100% healthy

White and black pepper, vinegar, capers, cinnamon, Cornstarch, Corn syrup, Nutmeg, Vanilla , Ketchup, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, relish , Coffee, Distilled liquor, Black Tea

i think if i had avoided vinegar my stomach would have healed a bit faster instead of takeing 6 months but i could not tell what foods hurt my stomach untill it was fully healed

and also i have never really suffered from constipation so if you are the same keep the fiber in your diet very low i find if i eat to much fiber it can big time upset my stomach a tip on how to keep your fiber low is when cooking vegetables like broccoli cut it very close to the top flower part and toss mostly all the stem away the stem part is where all the fiber is

alot of people agree that a diet high in fiber will cause very bad gut problems while others who have constipation problems like eating high fiber but for me i must keep it low
