Exclamation Eating fat only?

Ok as some of you may know already i looove to learn new things specially about weight loss and how it really works.
Ok so long story short, i was reading that excess protein is hard on the liver and kidneys yeah i got it but i also read that excess protein turns into body fat. True fact also.
This brings me to my question. So excess carbs and protein turn into fat.
What if i only ate fat? I know it's not healthy at all but that's not my question, if i eat butter all day and olive oil and mayonaisse would that burn body fat?

This is merely informative but i thought some of you could help me figure this out.
I hope you're doing great

Default Re: Eating fat only?

I've been reading up about fats and carbs avidly all day every day for weeks.

From what I have learned, a fat only diet would cause very fast weight loss indeed, akin to fasting.

Unlike fasting, you would not be hungry.

Unfortunately, just like fasting, you would be starving internally, because your body needs protein to repair its cells 24/7.

But you know what, these vegetarian types often go on 3-day fasts, and it doesn't seem to kill them. I'd imagine that a fat-fast would be healthier than what they do, ie zero foods.

A well known local hypnotherapist near me told me he was going to a retreat to do a three day fruit juice fast. That's gotta be worse than eating only fat.

My diet is about 75% to 80% fat, by the way and I feel great. But the rest is protein.

Default Re: Eating fat only?

it depends on some things for example the induction 65% fat 30% protein 5% carbs works for about 95% of people there are only 5% who are super metabolicly resistant and need the fat fast for awhile

fat fast is atkins as well just much higher fat and lower carb/protein and its only recommended if the induction fails which is rare it also only allows 1000 calories a day which sounds hard but is alot easier since fat is so filling

but remember you must eat protein eating to low protein is dangerous but on some parts of fat fast the protein is much to low thats why its only allowed for 1 week tops i think

but yes to your question if you just ate fat and you were one of the 95% who have good weight loss on normal atkins induction then you could lose fat madly fast infact you could lose weight so fast that it would be dangerous but if you ever did lose weight that fast make sure you drink ALOT of water to flush all the toxins out which were stored in your body fat

but also know this is a life long diet and if you took the quick route you wouldnt be able to find out your CCL which tells you how many carbs and what types of foods you can eat in a day while still loseing weight you find out your CCL during the on going weight loss and Rungs

i did find eating higher fat and less carbs/protein did help me lose fat faster i was checking on fitday and when i ate 78% fat i was loseing faster but i was still geting my broccoli and meat/protein in easily and i never did fat fast

According to DANDR2002, if you eat too much protein it is converted to glucose and stored in muscles, if those stores are full it is converted to fat and stored in the body. BUT...if you eat the percentages that Dr. A recommends you will not be eating too much protein. This allows your body to burn the fat, then protein as fuel.

There is a section in the book in the first couple of chapters that explains how the body burns or stores fat, protein, or carbs, depending on how much you eat. It also goes ove what happens if you are not eating the right percentages with respect to burning lean body mass. You might want to go back and read it. If I had my bood I would quote it (I just read that section last night), but it is at home.

You though, have not read "the book". Dr. Atkins explains very clearly the answers to the questions you post here......read the book!

Dr A did not address the question of what would happen if you ate only fat. Erick is entitled to speculate without feeling told off, I think!

Please do ask as much as you like Erick. This is an Atkins support board and that's what we're here for.
Timlin has also given good advice though, if you haven't read DANDR (and to all those who haven't read the book)... Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) is a goldmine of terrific information and it really pays to understand the science behind the plan.

Let's keep our threads friendly!

Timlin, Your post was quite rude I think. Of course everyone should read the book, but sometimes it just doesn't "go in" and you have to ask questions..after all that's the whole point of a forum. Why are you on here? Why not just read the book as you pointed out and get on with it!

I've asked some damn silly questions....ask all you want I say, that is after all how you learn. I have learnt quite a lot from Ericks questions thanks Erick!
