| All of your questions are answered in Dr. Atkin's book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution version 2002. Honestly, I am in the best health I have ever been in. If you eat like the book tells you to, drink plenty of pure water (64+ ounces), take vitamin supplements, and exercise, this way of eating is in perfect harmony with the human body. You really need to read the book, there is so much information in it that helps you understand how and why it works. BTW...the article is about low carb high protein diets....this plan is a low carb, high fat, moderate protein way of life. It is not a run of the mill yo-yo diet. When you start Atkins you should commit to it for life. The article states "Low Carb diets are without the protection of the "good" carbs, the complex carbohydrates (plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grains). An extended stay on this kind of menu could spell trouble." which is a false statement about Atkins...you can eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and grains...on the appropriate rung of OWL, Pre-maintanence, and Life time Maintanence. Atkins shows you how to learn which foods react well with your body and weight and which ones react negativly. It also teaches you to eat whole foods rather than processed junk foods that are readily available world wide.

| The first thing i would suggest is to get the DANDR book and read it. This diet is high fat, medium protein, and low carb. We consume high amounts of fat and minimal amounts of carbs to change the body from burning carbs to burning body and dietary fat for energy. We keep the protein consumption at a medium level because protein is needed to maintain the body but too much can be converted to glucose and possibly stored as fat. In this diet you can eat fresh salad veggies and other veggies, fresh fruits and grains come later on during the diet. Just like there are articles bashing the Atkins diet, there are just as many encouraging people to convert to it. Remember there are always two side to ANY DIET you may try. If 3 pounds is all you have lost in 3 weeks, maybe you are doing something wrong so try posting a menu on the board to have people check for any mistakes and also make sure you are exercising. I also noticed you and I have the around the same stats and because we dont have as much to lose as some others on the board it may be a little slower, so remember not to compare your weight loss to others. I hope i was able to help and we are all here for you and hope you dont give up.

| As has already been mentioned, Atkins induction is high fat, medium protein, low carb. As one progresses through OWL to maintenance the fat percentage should decrease as one increases the carb percentage. Protein should stay medium percentage. You may find this thread enlightening. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ml#post1114123 (Low Carb Diets damage arteries?) |

In all of the books Dr. Atkins wrote, about 1/3 is devoted to the science behind Atkins, another 1/3 is devoted to the benefits of Atkins (including studies that support the premise of the Diet) and the final 1/3 is devoted to how to do the Diet. The books are presented that way so while you read them, you can look things up for yourself and read opposing views.

| I eat real food on Atkins. I eat junky foods like frozen potpies when I'm not on Atkins. The food I eat on Atkins is the same foods my grandparents would have eaten most of their lives, minus the desserts. All my grandparents are still kicking, they are pushing 90. They weren't always low fat. They ate real meat and cheeses and veggies. They threw in a biscuit or toast too. They had more milk probably. So I'm not missing much from how they ate. And its almost exactly how they'd eat if they ment to loose weight, leaving off the bread and desserts and pasta. I have no worries.

I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask. |

| Thank you all so much, I really feel better, you are right, protein is not the biggest part of the diet! Ok I am going to stick to it. And actually, you weren't being rude, because I actually DID NOT read the book, which I should go and get - and I will. Thank you all. |

| Good luck katytorres. Yes follow the rules in the book and move up the ladder and you will have a very healthy diet on your hands. Most of the criticism of Atkins on the net are done by people who have no idea what Atkins is because they did not read the book.
