Default White pumpkin vs Orange pumpin

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the carb count or taste of a white pumpkin versus a regular orange pumpkin? Walmart had them for 50 cents each so I bought one and don't want to eat it if it is going to throw me off.

No difference in carb count. I've never tried one because they look more like those watery, fiberous jack o'lanterns that aren't really worth the effort to eat.

Default Re: White pumpkin vs Orange pumpin

White pumpkins have become very popular in New England. The larger ones are called ghost pumpkins or Luminas and the little ornamental ones, baby boos. While the outside of the white pumpkins tend to be pure white, it is only the outside rind that is white while the flesh beneath the rind is orange which tends to give the pumpkin a unique look when carved and illuminated by a candle on a dark halloween night.

OK, back to eating them. White pumpkin can also be substituted for orange pumpkin in many recipes, whether you're baking pumpkin custards or cheesecake or a pumpkin soup. The texture and taste of the Lumina variety is excellent for baking. Try using a hollowed out white pumpkin as an attractive serving tureen. White pumpkins are also popular in Indian cuisine but all the recipes I have found are not Induction friendly. The little ornamental Baby Boos are not suitable for eating.

As far as I can tell, the nutritional info is the same as the orange skin pumpkins.

Thank you ladies for the info! I will be trying mine soon. Pumpkin has become a big part of my menu. I have been eating some with my sausage for breakfast. Yummy!
