Default What's the deal with Pickles?!

I'm probably posting this in the wrong forum. I'm curious about pickles (induction vs OWL). I see some jars that say 0 carbs.

My body feels the need for something fermented and I think having a few spears in my salad would do wonders for me.

Pickles are just cucumbers. Check that there is no sugar in the ingredients, but if there isn't, then they are okay for Induction and count towards your salad vegetables.

How in the world do you keep pickles crisp?

I just can't bring myself to eat a soggy pickle.....

I buy a jar of those long length pickles and open the jar and its crispy and then the next day it turns into rubber.

I use sugar free bread & butter pickles (slices) by Mt. Olive. I love those. I have used them fairly often since I discovered them and haven't had a problem with them. I am not really big on dill pickles but will eat them once in a while.

PS. I don't have a problem with my pickles getting soggy. Maybe it is the brand? Or them not being kept cold enough?

Pickles, since they're made from cucumbers, are never 0 carbs.

The label is simply rounding down ... as it is allowed to ... but that doesn't make it true.

If you ever find a food that says 0 carbs, it's always best to double check with a trusted source, such as FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or the USDA at http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

I eat lots of pickles with no problem. (I drink plenty of water anyway, so there's no problem with the salt for me) Just make sure there isn't added sugar. I always count 1 carb per serving.

Mt Olive is the only brand made without sugar -- they use Splenda to "sweeten" them. I have 1 jar of bread & butter pickles, 1 jar of sweet relish and 1 jar of sweet gherkins in my fridge and use them all. It took me 4 stores to find the Mt Olive brand without sugar - when I did I bought 2 jars of each. I'm not a huge pickle eater but if they are going to be that hard to find I wanted to make sure I had them in my pantry to begin with.

6 of the Mt Olive bread and butter is 1 carb - 1 tablespoon of the relish is 1 carb and 1 ounce (2 pickles) of the sweet gherkins are 1 carb.

The brand you are using isn't correct.

I look for "Sour" pickles which have no sugar. I try to get the brand with the least amount of ingredients. I buy small jars and it last me awhile. They stay crispy until I feel it is unsafe to still eat them. I tend to eat them when I am not sure if I am hungry and after a few bites I know.

Pickles = Goodness.

Vlastic also has bread and butter pickles that are splenda sweetened. But it may be a local brand, Don't know. But they are the only brand around here I could find of the bread and butter type without sugar. Love them on hamburgers.
