| Welcome! >> I have tried atkins but have failed.>> Why do you fail? What causes you to fail? What's your plan for not failing this time? >> And can I drink coffee (black with splenda) or not? >> Yes, you "can". >> Can later I add yogurt? I don't see it in any of the phases?>> Yes, it would come back under the dairy rung of OWL. >> Can you eat too many eggs?>> How many do you consider "too many"? I regularly eat 2 1/2 per day. >>I just want to be 110 and maintain that.>> Is it possible your body doesn't want to be 110? As we get older, we have to accept that a weight we once were, years and years ago, isn't likely to be possible. I'll never be 86 pounds like I was in high school! ... it's best not to focus on a number on the scale, but to look at other "markers" ... good health, good bloodwork, feeling comfortable in your clothes.

| Its really hard to find a good yogurt to eat. Lots are of the light ones are carby and lots have the wrong kind of sweetner. Seach the forums for some threads about different brands. Maybe even hit up google and search for a sugar free yogurt thread. I can sneak a little now, but I'd still call it cheating cause I couldn't find the good brands around here. I found out I could have coffee. I did go on decaf and see if I lost weight weight faster without it though before I decided for myself. Actually every time I stalled I tried the decaf the first year. So I can safely say it doesn't affect me personally. But which sweeteners work for you and the coffee issue is one you'll have test out on yourself to be sure. And you should limit your servings of sweeteners. Turns out, those mess me up easily. The other thing is you don't have to perfect, but you do have to be persistent. That means not going off the diet and giving up every time you hit a snag. It means if you make a mistake, forgive yourself and get back on track with things. Over time how you eat and what you crave will change. You don't have that much to loose. Take your time, develop good eating habits that will help you when its time to just maintain your weight. You can do this!
__________________ ![]() My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs. 1st mini goal: 145! 2nd mini goal: 140! 3rd mini goal:135! 4th mini goal: 130! I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask. |

| Get, and READ, the book. FOLLOW THE RULES! You can drink coffee but caffeine can raise your blood sugar, so for the first two weeks i would stick with decaf. Limit your splenda to 2-3 packets per day. You can eat all the eggs you want but count each one as .5 carbs. YOU MUST EAT VEGGIES! They should account for 10-15 grams of carbs per day. Especially on intro, do not skip out on the veggies! Watch your cheese intake. On intro keep it to 2-3 oz per day (roughly one slice of cheese = 1 oz). Drink at least 64 oz of water per day. As you get into ketosis you will become so thirsty that you'll crave it anyway so drink up! Good luck! |

| I like coffee for 2 reasons: it gives me energy to workout and on my drive in to work in the AM and every now and again if I feel like eating for no reason but eating it helps me not want to eat after I know i've eaten enough. So is it worth drinking? Is 5 eggs too much? a day? i'm not trying to be what i was 10 years ago that was 98! but i was 111 last year! Well if i can have one cheat meal each week then i can do this. I know I need to control how much I eat during that cheat meal though. i can live without yogurt so that's fine. but i would like fruit and whole grain carbs which looks like I can have. How many carbs in induction total? |

| Atkins doesn't have to be the diet that separates you from the rest of the world. I figure if my diabetic friends and family can manage to have normal lives and stick to a low glycemic diet, I can. ![]() I used to be a coffee fiend, but now I only have a couple cups per day. I find that when on Atkins my energy level skyrockets, so I don't need the jolt. Yes, you can have splenda on Atkins, but there's a limit to the number of servings per day. Personally I find that splenda is ok once in a while, but it causes me to crave sweets. Others find it's a great fix. There are alternative sweeteners like stevia that others here have found works great for them. The fact that you exercise 6 days a week is awesome! Personally I found that circuit training was what really boosted my metabolism. Perhaps a change in exercise routine is what's needed? As to eggs, I'm an egg-meister... egg-head... egg-oh-rrrrama... queen-oh-eggs... LOL Too many eggs? pshhhhhh whatever I eat as many eggs as I want. Now I DO count the carbs in my eggs... one carb each... and I do try to get the MAJORITY of my carbs from veggies. This being said, yeah, girl eat an egg. Eat two or more, but count the carbs. When you move to the 2nd rung of Ongoing Weight Loss (dairy), you can have fresh cheeses like ricotta and cottage and have small servings of hard cheeses, cream, sour cream, low-carb ice cream, low-carb yogurt, and low-carb milk. I figure if induction takes 14 days... then another week or two to add more veggies in the first rung of OWL, you should be able to have low-carb yogurt about a month into Atkins? That's about how much time I gave it before trying my all-time favorite cottage cheese without throwing myself into a weight-loss stall. Welcome to the boards and best of luck to you! |

| >>Its really hard to find a good yogurt to eat.>> Try Greek yogurt or plain full fat yogurt. You can add your own berries! And it doesn't need a sweetener.

| >> Is 5 eggs too much? a day?>> I probably wouldn't eat that many every day of the week ... mainly because I would be bored. >>I like coffee for 2 reasons: it gives me energy to workout and on my drive in to work in the AM and every now and again if I feel like eating for no reason but eating it helps me not want to eat after I know i've eaten enough. So is it worth drinking?>> That's your call. You will need to work on your wanting to eat for no reason though. Remember, coffee has carbs ... and it doesn't count towards your water. >>if i can have one cheat meal each week then i can do this. >> Not on Atkins you can't. If that's your bottom line, then Atkins probably isn't a way of eating for you. A cheat meal sets one back almost a week ... so you're not really getting the benefit of Atkins. >> How many carbs in induction total?>> 20 net, with most coming from Induction vegetables. The list is in your copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002.

| really no cheating? i thought cheating was healthy and the reason people can't or shouldn't is cuz they fall off? I can have one meal and cheat and go right back to the way i always eat for the rest of the week. i realy dont think there is a diet where you are allowed a cheat meal technically. so coffee has carbs? how about green tea? |

| >>eally no cheating? i thought cheating was healthy>> Yes, really! You haven't read the book, have you? > realy dont think there is a diet where you are allowed a cheat meal technically.>> Yes, there is. Of course, Atkins done properly isn't a "diet" ... it's a way of eating for life. It seems you want a diet ... or in other words, you want your cake, too. >> so coffee has carbs? how about green tea?>> Yes, to both.
