| If it's any consolation, the extra pounds you gained are probably all water weight. It should come off soon. Great job getting back on the wagon, by the way! The best way to handle this slip-up is to figure out what in the situation made you cheat, and how to avoid it next time! |

| >>hen I went to my brother's for the weekend and of course, could not stay on the diet. But that is all my fault because no one made me eat cake, right?>> You need to ask yourself "why, of course" is your thinking? Of course, you could have! Everything we eat is a choice. As to the scales ... pick one. Use that one. Period.

| well to answer your question why say diet? Because it is the Atkins Diet. That is what he called it. Of course it is a new way of eating, but maintenance is different from induction. So it is a new diet to me. Anything that is a collection of things is referred to as a Diet.

| I agree with browneyes on the word "diet." Your diet is what you eat as a whole, using the word doesn't automatically mean that you're saying that you're "on a diet." If you ate nothing but cookies then your diet consists of cookies, if you follow the Atkins plan, well then your diet is based on Atkins. It bothers me when people get called out for saying "diet" rather than "way of eating." The two terms are completely interchangeable in the context of most posts that I see on this board. Dr. Atkins did start calling it the Atkins Nutritional Approach in DANDR 2002, but the word "diet" is still right in the title of the book, and using his longer terminology on a message board could easily get tedious. Wether you do it for quick weight loss or long term good health, Atkins is a diet no matter how you slice it. |

| Atkinsgal - I didn't say that it was intended for that, but some people use it that way. I work with someone who will use Atkins for 2 weeks to drop a few pounds for an event, and then go back to her usual way of eating when the event has passed. My point was that using the word "diet" does not mean that someone is only planning on eating this way temporarily. It can mean that, but it doesn't have to. Georgiana - I have seen quite a few people say things similar to what you said. I was not referring to any one person when I said that, please don't take offense because none was intended. |
