Question Question about Turkey Burgers

I recently bought turkey burgers and I noticed that they have dextrose listed on the ingredients list. It's the last ingredient listed, and I remember reading somewhere that if something like that is further down on the list then it's usually ok. What I read was in regards to mayo and sugar I believe, would dextrose in a turkey burger be ok if it's the last ingredient on the list?

Default Re: Question about Turkey Burgers

If you bought your own ground turkey, there wouldn't be any dextrose in your burgers.

Since you own them, I wouldn't waste them. However, I wouldn't buy them again!

A good "rule of thumb" is that if sugar (by any name) is not one of the first 4 ingredients AND the net carb count of a serving is 2 or less, then it can be acceptable.

However, these turkey burgers are "processed" ... and I would avoid them in the future.

Some people avoid all forms of sugar whenever they can. Dextrose is not your friend and it's an unnecessary ingredient here.

This is certainly a matter of personal opinion.
I do watch to make sure that sugar is only listed once (under any name) because if it is listed 2, 3 or more times, even near the end of the list, it would be much higher on the list if it was only listed once under "sugar".
If you choose to eat these, keep in mind that they could be problematic - watch for cravings and other blood-sugar symptoms, and if you have trouble losing...you might want to eliminate them to see if that helps.

check how you do weight wise for a couple days after to see if you gain any weight...when I eat anything with any "ose" food in it I watch the scale for a couple days and if nothing happens (going up I mean) then I figure it's ok to eat.

It's Harvest Land. The bag says they are "minimally processed" No hormones or steroids, no antibiotics, fed 100% Vegetarian diet made with all natural ingredients and Gluten free!

You know my husband bought me boneless chicken the other week with similar claims, which is great but then they added SUGAR to the broth that it's injected with. ugh. I hope that I still lose eating these turkey burgers, they're pretty tastey!

I buy the frozen patties because I have an 11 month old that's been walking for 2 months now! It's easier this way. When things calm down I may have time to make the patties from reg ground turkey. Thanks everyone!

Really good tip by JulieB! It amazed me when I realized that companies do this (listing essentially sugar in multiple names to fool consumers). Sneaky sneaky! Just a little tip for the crazy dog people like me who are psychotic about what goes into little dog tummies (TONS of dog food companies do this as well with their dog food: ex. corn, corn meal, corn gluten) Sometimes I worry more about how my "babies" eat than me, haha

Like "sugar free" Cool Whip!

Sugar free:
