ive read information that says its ok to consume raw eggs , i mean its like most things evey1 has a different idea about sumthing ,ill do it until sumthing happens thats makes me not do it lol . anyway this is just one of many informative sites i found on eggs cheers muz Raw eggs for health

Thanks for posting the link to that article, Muz! It was very informative. Now I just need to TRY the recipe! I think my boyfriend is going to think I'm a freak show when I throw raw eggs in the blender, but oh well!

There are also sights that discourage consuming raw eggs, but each person must decide what is best for themself.

I guess it really is up to the individual. And we are just a little nervous about salmonella. Of course, raw eggs are not the only way to contract it.

But our family stays clear of anything that could cause salmonella. Our 2 year old son spent 2 weeks in the hospital in 1982 after contracting salmonella from drinking milk processed from a major dairy in the Chicago area. He was quite ill. After inspections, The plant was shut down and never allowed to reopen. Over 10,000 people became ill from either first or secondary infection. The plant provided milk to the Chicago area and surrounding towns. It caused a lot of people more problems than just the illness.

For us, we owned a restaurant at the time, and the Health Dept would not allow my husband to be at our business for almost a month, and he had to be tested twice to verify he was not infected as well. Try staying away from your business for a month!!! Not a good thing.

Restaurants here now post a warning on the bottom of their breakfast menus that eating undercooked eggs could be dangerous and is not recommended.

Of course you can eat raw eggs your whole life and not get sick, but our household is just a little more cautious.

hey there mission yeah i hear you about concerns , and while it doesnt worry me at the moment ill c how i go in the future i will say this but i once caught Cryptosporidium from infected tap water when i lived in sydney , and let me say that i was so sick i literally wanted to die it was the absolute worst sickness i have ever experienced in my life it was agony for about 8 days i was so ill. my point is there is so much in the world that can make u sick or a bit ill if we worried about everything that could cause illness we would probaly live in a bubble lol dont get me wrong im not having a go at u simply saying i literally was close to death from drinking tap water once , and that was considered a safe water supply , cheers muz

For those concerned about eating raw eggs, some stores carry pasteurized eggs in the dairy case in cartons (like milk cartons). Just be careful about what you are buying...some are just whites, and some have additives.

I agree with you, about the idea of being overly cautious about a lot of stuff. We can go overboard trying to protect ourself from all the "evil" germs and bacteria lurking out there. I don't know about your country, but here they have gone nuts over sanitizing everything. The TV news and of course the tv ads have you sanitizing everything you touch in your house, car, etc. They have gone a little too far. You have to build up an immunity to most of this stuff.

Although on the other hand this H1N1 swine flu is starting to make its mark here and has a lot of people scared. I justed posted earlier on Carole's blog I believe, a local High school closed this week, 2/3 of the students (900 of them) called in sick last Monday and Tuesday. So they closed Tuesday and will reopen Monday.

A HS girl from another nearby town, died last week from the H1N1 and an undiagnosed heart condition. Both of her friends had the flu too, but it took over her worse and she lost the battle!

We all have to be careful and just hope we can stay healthy. I am going to look up "Cryptosporidium". Sounds terrible! Sorry about your ordeal. Is/was all of Sydney's water infected, or was there a temporary problem?

hey mission about the crypto in the water yeah it was in i think 1995 when 1 of sydneys largest water cathments was infected [from memory they found dead cattle in the water ] i think ,it was a while ago ,i heeded the warnings about not drinking non boiled water and i still caught it [i figure it was from water in the shower got into my mouth even tho i was careful].anyway it was very very nasty i dont want that again lol. its funny i actually cant wait till 5 am when i get to have my eggnog shake b4 work lol im hooked cheers for responses to this thread guys abit of discussion is a good thing cheers muz
