  • Canada - Vancouver BC

Hey fellow Canadians! I would love the opportunity to chat about foods and products found in stores here in BC, various runs and walks events etc..

I live in North Delta which is about 40 minutes south of Vancouver. I have found some amazing things in stores such as Cosco, Safeway and a few of the local Health food stores.

I was wondering if anyone was going to participate in the Breast Cancer Run or the Rick Hansen Man in Motion walk/run.

Lookin' forward to "hearing" from ya.

    Hello Lauren;
I too am a Canadian! I cannot help you with or discuss products in Vancouver, but you might be interested to know that in Ontario we have Atkins products in Costco, Zellers, Walmart, Health Food Stores etc. They're popping up everywhere it seems! I have a Health Food store in the Oshawa Centre that has many items and it's here that I can buy the bake mix etc.
DF and I were in Virginia (lovely & friendly state) a couple weeks ago and we couldn't get over all the stores that catered to Atkins! Even the 7-11 store! I think it's great! I just read about a low carb bakery in Vancouver! I've been surfing so many low carb sites, I forget now which one I was at, sorry.

I am located about 1 1/2 hours north of Toronto and I have found very limited selection of low carb products in Canada. Recently, I have ordered on-line from 'lowcarbsonline' in Los Angeles and 'netrition' in New York. Netrition has a better selection of product and prices are good, but freight costs are high. Lowcarbsonline pays for the freight for orders over $50. If you are interested in these websites, I could supply more information.

Kentcar, I hope you get this as I see this is an older string. I'm in Medicine Hat and although we've got Atkins stuff at Safeway, Wal-Mart, the local health food store ....etc. It's ALL THE SAME STUFF.

Reading some of the food reviews on here has scared me away from some of the Atkins products. But it looks like the diabetic products in the US are far more varied than what I can find here. I am SO jealous!

But some of the recipies posted here are fantastic and a great substitute for 'fake' foods. Try the Danish and the I Can't Beleive it's Not French Toast recipies. (I can't have these anymore because Splenda triggers my cravings DAMMM!!!!).

          Hi Y'all!

There's a few good sites in Canada now.

Info? Forums? Gourmet recipes (executive chef out of Vancouver)?
go to www.lowcarb.ca, then join the Forums and cruise the Canada section, the LowCarb Kitchen section (fabulous) and the Products section, in about that order.

Shopping (other than Costco, Walmart, Shopper's Drug Mart, all health food stores, etc.)? www.lowcarbfooddepot.com (Toronto), www.lowcarbcanada.com (victoria) and more. Just can't remember them all right now... but the www.lowcarb.ca site will turn up quite a few for you I'm sure.

          Enjoy!

            products in canada

I'm in Victoria and have noticed a sharp increase in the amount of low carb products available in the last two and a half months that I have been following the program. Keep checking and rechecking the stores as there is something new every week - ie. Costco now carries low carb pita bread and wraps by Dempsters as well as two brands of low carb bread. We also have a new grocery store called the LowCarb store and the owner is willing to research and order almost anything if it is available to Canada so it may be worth it to strike up a conversation with the ordering clerks or owners of healthfood stores etc.

Looking forward to discussing anything new and interesting with fellow Canucks.

Indeed, it's amazing how much stuff is showing up. Check out the many shelves of low carb specialty goodies at Lifestyle Markets (center aisles), their protein powder selection (across from vegetables), etc.

Looking for pork crackling snack in Vancouver. I usually shop at Safeway and haven't seen it there. Anyone seen it anywhere else?

                Cheers... WG

Old Dutch brandname Bac'n Puffs in every major store (should be in Safeway too). Usually called Pork Rinds.

Trophy brand pork rinds, often in Walmart and many other stores, including grocery stores.

No Name brand in Real Canadian Superstore, 3 flavours.

Miscellaneous brands, often "Sun" brand, in cornerstores and asian/import stores.

                  Look and ye shall find.

Hey Whirly - if you find "crackling" rather than "rinds" let me know kay? I can't seem to get into the rinds.

Here in Calgary, the Delhousie Co-Op has an entire section dedicated to Atkins products.

Also, any health food store in Canada can order any products for you. I went into GNC and took my Atkins catalogue with me. I placed my order and it was filled in 48 hours. (I had it two days later.)

                        Ask & ye shall recieve!!!

Any west coast Canadians around here these days?

I'd really like to chat about where to buy sugar free bacon and low-carb cream cheese. For some reason Canadian phili has the same packaging as the American stuff, but has a way higher carb count and doesn't taste nearly as creamy.

                              Re: Canada - Vancouver BC

Hello Des I'm not from BC but am from Ontario so I wont be able to help with products specific to your area...

Are you sure you are looking at regular full fat cream cheese? All brands of cream cheese here, Philly, Lactancia, even the generic brands have 1g of carbs per tablespoon and have no added fillers, so i cant see how the US brands would be any different?

As for bacon, Maple Leaf 50% less salt bacon (blue package) contains no added sugars. Though I've always found that the small amount in bacon has not caused me any issue, I just make sure I count the 1g of carbs.

                              Hope this helps!
