  • Question about percentages

Okay, when we start out with induction, we food that are fairly high in healthy fats, keeping a ration of 65% fat, 5% carbs, and 30% protein.

What are the percentages for you great Atkineers in maintenance?

I was wondering if the maintenance stage of Atkins can also be low-fat? I mean, if I were in maintenance, I'll eat my allotted number of carbs that will let me maintain my weight, but can I do it lowfat? I'm just wondering... I don't like fatty foods [never appealed to my tastebuds], and ketosis shouldn't really matter if you're trying to maintain your weight, right?

    Also, what is

I plan to move on to OWL soon.you ACE level? I know everyone's mileage varies, but I want to get a rough idea of what the ACE is for most people.

you need to understand Atkins to understand it will never be low fat. It will be lower fat but if you only have carbs, proteins and fats as food choices and maintenance is low carb too based on your individual ACE you either have to be eating healthy fats for fuel or you have to increase your proteins and that is another plan. Most folk do maintenance around 50% fats. you will not notise your ketosis as much just as high carb folk don't realize they are burning fats when they exercise after they run through the sugar in their system or while they are sleeping at night.

You don't have to eat that much fat to get your fats in seeds and nuts are very high fat, many veggies have fat in them you aren't even aware of. What fatty foods are you wanting to get rid of? maybe you can substitue other foods for them now.

I just want to make sure before I get to maintenance. I have about 20-30 pounds left [10 even, if I feel comfortable there], so I think I might go through OWL pretty quickly... possibly 2 weeks per rung.

What I want to get rid of are nuts and seeds [I'm thinking of skipping the nuts and legumes- of course, I will remain an extra two weeks on the previous rung]. Olives I can live with, but I don't care for avacados. I don't like bacon or sausages and most cheeses [real American cheese, sharp cheddar, monterey jack, and mozarella are about all I can deal with].

Also, I absolutely despise skin! Whether it's fish skin, pork rinds [they are okay if I'm very hungry], or most kinds of chicken skin. Mayo is my enemy- I want to hurl everytime I even smell it.

I'm a pretty picky eater... but I like most normal foods, like cheeseburgers without buns, tuna salad [the only thing that mayo is good in], etc.

So I suppose that my maintenance diet will be pretty low-fat.

do you like olive oil or butter? you could lightly saute your foods and skip the skins. how about salad dressings like itailian? Sour cream? Cream yogart?
why skip the legumes they are beans and not much fat in them?

          I don't like beans, lol.

Hm... olive oil and butter works. I love sauteed [sp?] foods... I always eat naked salads, but I suppose adding dressing won't hurt. I don't mind dressing. I love yogurt... I guess adding fat is a bit easier than I thought.
