  • Pork skins good or bad?

Hi everyone, I read the recipe for "you can't beleive it's not French Toast", and it said to use pork skins but I'm wondering if this is ok for me being in induction? Or even just a handful for a snack?

    I miss my french toast!

Yes pork skins or "pork rinds" are induction legal, but due to the saltyness of them they need to be limited. 1/4 a cup a day is about right. Due to the salt they make you retain more water.

So please do limit your intake.

They totally stall my weight loss, and I just want to snack, snack, snack after I eat them!! I finally had to crunch up the bag and throw them in the trash!! I hope they don't stall you like they do me.

Pork rinds are nasssssty. If you haven't had them before just have a few to try and see if you like them or not. A lot of people think they're the best thing ever and put them in every single recipe, but they're too porky for me.

I noticed they stall me and sometimes make my weight go up. No loss though, because I didn't care for them that much anyway.

I wish I liked them, but blech. Not for me. No nuts either. So maybe that is a good thing, since people have problems with them??

I like them for an occasional snack. It's like eating chips I guess. I like to dip them. But like Richt said...use in moderation.

Haven't used them in a recipe before but there's several out there...waffles, french toast, pancackes, heck, there's even a recipe for Mock Cinnamon Toast Crunch that uses them! Let us know how the FT turns out.

I think they are actually quite good with sour cream, or as makeshift chips (or "crisps") for various low-carb dips; however, the mere saltiness of them can get to a lady! Proceed with caution if you are affected by excessive sodium.

They don't seem to bother me but I eat them very rarely. I've tried the "cinnamon toast crunch" recipe and the french toast recipe. They are very good. If you make it for a weekend breakfast treat now and then, you'll probably be okay. I think this is one of those "your mileage may vary" kind of foods.

Re: Pork skins good or bad?

Personally, I've had to stay away from them simply because of the quantity I would consume! Last time during induction, I managed to still lose weight though I had eaten the whole bag of rinds the first 2 days of induction. This induction I am not going to eat any...I just don't have the self control! They are a lifesaver, particularly on induction if you are missing salty, crunchy snacks.

                        good luck!

Re: Pork skins good or bad?

You could always make some legal salty crunchy snacks - microwave slices of salami till they go crispy, or cubes of cheese till they melt and go hard.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I absolutely love the french toast recipe. Try it before these naysayers talk you out of it. LOL
The french toast recipe doesn't taste salty at all and with sugar free maple syrup, you really can't tell the difference.
I like the really oily Mexican variety for just snacking, but for the french toast, I use the Mission (? I think its Mission) kind. You can also use pork rinds as a breading and dipped in sour cream, oh yeah

I have to admit that I like pork rinds. They don't seem to affect me, but I will only eat them once in a while. But one of my favorite breakfasts is an omelet and pork rinds with a little peanut butter...instead of toast. I also use them as a filler in my salmon patties along with a little onion and cheese and an egg. I know it sounds nasty...pork rinds or skins...but to each his/her own! Diversity...ain't it a wonderful thing?
