    Self pity:
So I started Atkins back in June. Lost like 45 lbs by November. Haven't lost anything since then. That's like a 5 mo. stall! It really blows. So I've gotten really serious about figuring out what the problem is.
I (spit) tested positive for Candida which severely blows. Not looking forward to an even more severe diet.
Also, I've been taking my temp. to see if my thyroid's underactive. So far, it has been 97.9 deg. each time which means hypothyroidism. Extra-friggin-suckiness.

Stupid semi-rhetorical ques. #1: How did I lose all that weight with this cursed double-whammy?

Stupid semi-rhetorical ques. #2: If the cheese, vinegar, spices, etc. are cooked, why can't we eat them? Shouldn't cooking kill any yeast/mold? I mean, there ain't no live yeast in a fresh baked loaf of bread, right? Or else it would keep rising after removal from the stove, no?
[~I know people who question the rules outlined in DANDR are annoying and I'm not gonna eat that stuff for a few weeks just to play it safe, but I have a rational mind that needs appeasing.~]

For the Candida, you can take acidophilus, which can be find by the herbs/vitamins at your drugstore. This helps promote a healthy "flora" which is helpful in fighting candida.

With the body temperature, you might want to check with your doctor. My temperature is always in the 96-97 range, but my thyroid tests are always normal ()...but everyone's body is different. A doc could tell you for sure.

First of all, congrat on losing 45 pounds!

The answer your first question: many people with a yeast problem DO lose weight when they first start Atkins. If you've read DANDR and many of the stories of people that have done the anti-yeast diet before, people lost weight but then hit a major stall. As far as your "cursed double whammy" you may only have a yeast problem and not an underactive thyroid. Your physician can run tests to make certain. If you followed DANDR, you should have gone to physician already to have blood work done, etc.

The answer your second question: You can not eat those products because some people do not cook these items, they will consume them "as is." If you heat cheese until it melts, there will still be mold living.

The answer your double-negative question: Although the yeast in bread is dead, it still contains sugars which feeds the yeast in your body.

My advice to you is to read all the stickies and the links that are there. Good luck!
