Atkins is not about counting calories...you lose weight through ketosis where your body burns its own body fat. It's hard to tell if you'll gain any weight, because calories aren't the only factor in weight gain/loss. But many of us have lost weight by doing Atkins by the book.

Joy, It was awful! I mean, I felt fine while doing it but knew it was a stupid way to lose weight. Im so glad I found my way back to Atkins! I basically ate egg whites (about 2 a day), plain tuna (couple of ounces) and plain chicken (couple of ounces) thats it. No veggies, fat, or anything else for that matter. I know the scale is going to go up.......like I said, Im just trying to prepare myself for it...lol
        Lisa,
I have done atkins in the past and actually did very well on it but when I hit a stall, I took the easy way out instead of sticking to it. I am embarrased to even admit that. I put weight back on and then had the bright idea of trying a different diet. I did lose weight FAST but was pretty miserable while doing so. I couldnt eat out with friends or family. Thats what brought me back to Atkins. OMG......I cant even tell you how much better I feel Much more energy, no leg cramps at night, no walking around in a fog ect......
        Anyways..........its GREAT to be back!!
PS: By the way Joy....... you look amazing!

Don't give up! It sure seems like you would gain a little at first since you've been eating sooo very little. But you'll get right on track before you know it!

Thanks Dream. I will admit that it is a really rough day for me. I am not going to sway from the plan but Im hoping I dont see another gain tomorrow.

Welcome aboard - and back. It is great that you decided to give Atkins another go. Perhaps it would be a good idea not to weigh everyday but give your body a chance to function right again.

If you have almost starved yourself, it would be logical if your body tries to hold on to whatever it finally gets to replace whatever your have lost. You know, when starving your body starts 'eating' iself - lean muscle tissue, organ tissue etc in order to survive. So it will probably take some time before your body is back on track.

So enjoy your new energy, start exercis8ing and the weight will come off

Thanks for your post Sanne. I am having a really hard day. I am so depressed about my weight going up almost 3 pounds in 2 days. Im not going to be able to put the scale away until my weight at least stabilizes. I mean, it cant just keep going up and up.......can it?? I am reading and re-reading these boards to try to keep myself motivated but Im finding it really hard. Im so upset with myself. Sorry to ramble, just feeling really down

                            I second sanne's suggestion, bostongirl

You shocked your poor body by depriving it of food with that starvation diet so you cant blame it for wanting to grab on to everything you feed it for a while.
After all it doesnt know whether you are only going to give it good nutrition for a few days then starve it again so it is following the old adage 'Make hay while the sun shines'

I dont know what kind of goal you have set yourself in your mind but would recommend two for the next 2 weeks
                            1. Stick to induction by the book
                            2. dont get on those pesky scales for the entire 2 weeks of your induction.

you no doubt can recall seeing many posts over the last few years from members panicking and therefore giving up on induciton if they see the scales either halt their downward movement or go up, and these were often people who had been eating a 'standard' diet with plenty of food (even though it was highcarb/lowfat etc) If their bodies couldnt lose weight in a straight downward line once they converted to Atkins woe, you cant expect your deprived body to be any different.

Give yourself a chance to reset your metabolism following induction and dont put yourself under the pressure of needing to see a drop in scales readings while you allow your body to recuperate.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                              Boston Girl,

Bless your heart! I am thinking here as I read this thread that there is by no means enough information to know IF you should be back in induction. You did a big injustice to your body and it needs time to adjust and heal.

First off, how much do you weigh and how tall are you?

How much do you need to lose?

(Without knowing your stats it is hard to tell if going back into induction is the healthiest thing for you right now.)

How long did you follow the way of eating you were doing?

How much did you lose on that way of eating?

                              Have you seen your doctor?

                              Are you taking supplements?

I have more questions, but answers to these would make them alot easier.
